The Outnet’s Marni Sale Video Features Alexa Chung Wearing Proenza Schouler… Huh?

Let’s be real. There are few things us “full time Marni freaks” here at Fashionista are more excited about than the Outnet’s upcoming Marni sale. With prices up to 65% off, it will be a wonder if my bank account survives.

But like any good shopper, I had to check out the preview to see what kind of Marni goods were going to be offered. Camel skirts, check. Solid dresses in a “painterly palette,” check. That green, printed Proenza Schouler dress I’ve been lusting for since September, check…. Huh?

Somehow the video editor skipped a crucial step in their research and thought Alexa Chung’s darling AW10 Proenza minidress was made by Marni. A blatant error since the pattern and cut are so distinguishably Proenza. (The good news: she is sporting a Marni handbag.)

Since our last recap of the spring ads, tons of new images have been released, including Miu Miu‘s full campaign starring none other than Querelle Jansen!

For fashion nerds like myself, Querelle’s image brought back memories of Marc Jacobs’ fall ’05 collection inspired by Violet from the Incredibles and his spring ’05 collection for Vuitton that he said she inspired with her street style. Call me nostalgic, but I hope Querelle makes a major comeback in the 2010s.

Considering A Tattoo? They’re Not As Easy To Remove As You Think

While tattoos have historically had a place in rebellion, lately they’ve become fashionable for everyone from celebs to models to brides. From Thierry Mugler’s recent menswear show to Gisele’s famous star to Rihanna’s ever-growing collection of ink to Eva Longoria’s wedding tattoo (oops) it seems like everyone’s getting inked with abandon. And it’s a lot more socially acceptable, despite what you may think about the aesthetics.

But what happens when you decide that a) “it’s tacky” or b) “I hate that bastard” and want to get rid of it? Well, you’re in for some pain, a time commitment, a financial commitment, and absolutely no guarantee that it will be gone.

I spoke to Dr. Heidi Waldorf, the Director of Laser and Cosmetic Dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in NYC, about the process of tattoo removal. You often hear people say flippantly, “Well, I can always get it removed.” How feasible is it—really?

“There is no magical eraser for tattooing,” she told me. Her take-away points?

Vera Wang Adds Diamond Rings to Her Bridal Empire

While many designers have had major success with discount retailers like Target and H&M, Vera Wang might be the most multi-faceted when it comes to affordable collaborations.

Wang released a mattress collection with Serta in 2006, she sells Simply Vera, an affordable collection (which reportedly remained profitable even during the recession), at Kohl’s, and she’s about to release her first David’s Bridal collection, which includes wedding dresses under $1,500. Oh, and she designs floral arrangements for FTD. But she isn’t stopping there. After dresses and flowers and mattresses, what could be next? The future is looking sparkly.

Note to Self: Don’t Knock Off the Birkin: Contemporary label Thursday Friday is in deep water after releasing a tote bag which featured a photo of the Hérmes Birkin bag. Thursday Friday screen-printed the image of the red iconic bag onto their eco-friendly tote bags, and while the bag certainly isn’t a knock-off, per se, Hermés seems to think the label is “confusing” and “misleading” its buyers. The amount for which Thursday Friday is being sued has not been disclosed, but we’re guessing the major luxury label isn’t asking for petty change. {She Finds}

Soap, The Most Underappreciated Beauty Product, Gets Its Own Institute

You probably use soap. Or at least I’ll wager you HAVE used soap at some point in your life. It’s not one of those sexy products that people like to analyze and gush over, unlike mascara or nail polish. You probably take it for granted. Well, shame on you.

Soap now has its own institute, called–appropriately enough–the “Institute of Soap.” Frenchman and soap production specialist Laurent Bousquet started the organization to address the environmental and economic concerns associated with soap production. There will also be a research component to look at biodegradability, to promote it as a sustainable product, and to encourage innovation.

Quote of the Day: Black Swan‘s Costume Designer Disses Rodarte

I was happy for Rodarte’s persistent publicity efforts at first; I’m so proud of the film and anything that brings it to an even wider audience is genuinely welcome. I tried to put aside my ego while being airbrushed from history in all of their interviews, as I’m just not that kind of person anyway. But when articles were planted that attacked me personally as if I had conspired against them I felt nothing but despair and betrayal. I don’t have a publicist working for me, needless to say, and I was asked to stay quiet –“not to engage”, to avoid any bad press towards the film. Unfortunately this seems to have proven detrimental to the perception of my work on Black Swan. I didn’t make the rules that the Guild and the Academy set and I am proud of my professionalism and commitment to my work, so to have my name dragged into such ill-informed gossip is galling and hurtful to say the least.

Interestingly, the overwhelming reaction from other costume designers has been very affirming. Apparently this has happened to a number of people, but this one just got more press.
