While live blogging the Golden Globes on Sunday night, I think the moment that made me gasp the most (besides seeing a fleeting glimpse of January Jones in that Versace cut out gown) was the Biebs’ glowy, dewy, perfect skin. Granted, he’s only 16 so besides some breakouts he should have incredible skin. But he looked almost doll-like.

I contacted Nathan Johnson, a celebrity makeup artist with experience in film and TV. His work has appeared in Rolling Stone and Elle. Most importantly for our purposes, about 50% of his clients are men. Here’s what he had to say about Justin’s glow:

He is shockingly dewy….almost to the same dewy level as Mario Lopez and Zac Efron. Men and makeup is about as old as Hollywood itself and it should be expected. There are several ways that you can achieve that dewy glow. He may have used a liquid highlighter or a brightening primer, but I suspect there is more to it than that. I’d be willing to wager that he was either airbrushed or is wearing a very sheer layer of liquid/cream foundation. And he’s wearing blush. Notice the highest part of his cheek bone. Natural flush never goes that high. He looks fantastic, but there are a few telltale giveaways.

Busted, Biebs! Not that we’re judging you, boo. Very few women will leave the house without at least a little bit of makeup on, never mind the red carpet. I’d airbrush myself from head to toe.

Of course he is wearing too much make up and looking like a girl.
He should better try not do that otherwise he is a very cool dude.

If you’re going for invisible, never go liquid. I’d wager that there’s something going on on his lips also.

Totally agree re: lips. The more I stare at that pic, the more corpse-like he becomes

He’s giving me Leo DiCaprio 1997. It’s uncomfortable for me.

and probably some clear mascara?

yuck! i can’t possibly see why would he do that, unless he wanted to look beautiful, which he did…

Elegant and shiny, like a yacht.

Doesn’t everyone, at this stage, KNOW that everyone who makes a scheduled TV appearance is wearing makeup? Otherwise one just does not look very good. So what’s the big shock here?

He doesn’t normally look anything like this, and I would be surprised if I’d ever seen him without makeup.

The kid is not trying to hide it. I saw a pic of him in US Weekly getting his makeup done before a concert. No big deal.
