Jane Keltner deValle, the Fashion News Director at Teen Vogue, just tweetpic’d this photo of one of Rachel Zoe’s new pieces from her just-debuted Rachel Zoe Collection next to a page from Teen Vogue back in October 2007. In that feature, Zoe made over then-intern Elana Fishman (she’s now fashion credits editor at Marie Claire and a Fashionista contributor) into a “paparazzi darling.”

When most designers put together a look book they hire a model and photograph that same model styled in their looks for that season. Not Rachel Roy.

Roy has always used real women-not professional models-for her Rachel Rachel Roy look books, but this season, in keeping with the dance trend brought to a head by Black Swan, Roy has hired professional dancers and a choreographer to dance her spring collection for her diffusion line, Rachel Rachel Roy.

“Using dancers for the spring look book was an inspiring and powerful way to showcase young people pushing themselves through art,” said Roy. It’s no surprise Roy is open to unconventional sources of inspiration in fashion–she’s set to launch a line with New York Knick (and Vogue-darling) Amar’e Stoudemire sometime soon.

So a couple weeks ago I stopped by the Jermaine Browne dance studio tucked away in the Garment District to watch the choreography/casting in progress. Nine dancers were selected to model/dance 14 looks from Roy’s spring Rachel Rachel Roy collection.

Harper’s Bazaar Leaks Pics of Rachel Zoe’s Show From This Morning: Rachel Zoe showed her new collection this morning, and The Cut is reporting that it was supposed to be a super-secret no-cameras deal “a la Tom Ford.” Looks like Harper’s didn’t get the message. {HarpersBazaarUS/Twitter via The Cut}

Victoria Beckham To Show In London?: As the Beckhams settle into London for David’s new temp gig with the Tottenham Hotspur, rumors have been swirling that Victoria will show her A/W 2011 collection there this season. Sources “close to” Beckham dished that she is getting her collection ready for London Fashion Week. But a British Fashion Week spokesperson told Vogue UK: “Victoria is not showing in London this season.” Who to believe? {VogueUK}

“I see Internets every morning — I don’t have an e-mail address and, you know, I don’t do Internet, but every morning my boyfriend, Alex, makes me coffee and we watch these images. And more and more I see these stylish women wearing all these evening dresses for day, and I thought, how beautiful. So it’s not just about the nice gray sweater and the nice, I don’t know, that nice straight skirt, but it’s becoming a little bit more elaborated during the day.”

Alber Elbaz on the inspiration behind his 2011 pre-fall collection for Lanvin at yesterday’s show at the Bowery Hotel, according to The Cut.

We liked Giabiconi better in his awesomely bad music video “Showtime” (yay, another excuse to watch it again–“Whass wrong wees you, man!?”) then here, where he plays a mannequin in Karl Lagerfeld‘s latest short for Chanel called “Window World.” The video also stars Magdalena Frackowiak and Barbara Dvorakova as mannequins in a room full of mannequins. Mannequins + real models playing mannequins + score that makes it sound as if someone is about to get stabbed = creepy. We much prefer Kim Cattrall and James Spader in Mannequin. (Via Fashin)

Behold: Leighton Meester for Missoni

Tuesday, Jan 11, 2011 / 10:51 AM

Missoni has released their spring campaign on Vogue Italia‘s website, including the all important image of Leighton Meester. Meester’s not the solo star of the campaign, which features a large group of creative types and acquaintances of the Missoni family. Socialites, artists, and royalty, including Eugenie Niarchos, Lissy von Thurn und Taxis, Tatiana Santo Domingo and Jaquetta Wheeler all make cameos in Missoni’s spring campaign, which Angela Missoni said was inspired by the cover of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

While Meester‘s Gossip Girl co-star Blake Lively’s Chanel campaign is likely to make more of a splash, Meester looks perfectly adorable in Missoni.

Click through to check out the rest of Missoni’s charmingly busy, quirky and cluttered spring campaign. How refreshing to see a campaign where everyone looks like they’re having a blast. All images by Juergen Teller.

If you thought Rachel Zoe had toned it down what with her pregnancy and skipping out on Milan and Paris spring fashion weeks, think again.

Not one to be slowed down by pregnancy, the superstar stylist has been keeping plenty busy working on her first line, the Rachel Zoe Collection, and having it all filmed for the fourth season of her popular Bravo reality show.

Zoe, seven months pregnant, and her sizable entourage (Bravo crew included) stopped by WWD to style a shoot for the paper with a few looks from her forthcoming collection. The collection is pure Zoe–tailored (there’s plenty of suiting, including, according to WWD, a le smoking-esque tuxudo jumpsuit), dramatic, with a ’70s flare. Even though, Zoe says, ““I’d imagine everybody is expecting something from me that’s kind of a Seventies, uberboho-glam kind of thing, and, you know, very accessorized. And it’s not.”

Unlike Zoe’s small affordable collection for QVC, the Rachel Zoe Collection will be a contemporary line which includes outerwear (with capes galore, obviously), shoes (four inch high stilettos with massive platforms, obviously) and handbags (Zoe literally screamed when she saw the first sample). Prices will range from $250 for a day dress up to $700 for a full tuxedo look. Zoe’s manufacturing firm Li & Fung say they haven’t secured any retailers yet, but Zoe says she envisions the collection on the racks next to Alexander Wang and DVF and Marc by Marc Jacobs.

Of course, the Zoe tornado couldn’t tear through WWD without leaving some gossip detritus behind.

We love us some collages here at Fashionista, so it’s no surprise we’re also huge fans of Polyvore, the highly-addictive site that let’s you create instant mood boards featuring your favorite trends and inspirations. This week, I’m guest-judging sets on Polyvore, and serving as a style expert to answer user’s style questions, too. (Kate Moss did something similar a few months back. Oh yeah. I mentioned myself and Ms. Moss in the same breath.)

Anyway, you should submit a set–Not only because I’ll be the one judging, and I love you, but also because the winner will receive a swag bag courtesy of Fashionista. The kit includes a Jimmy Choo clutch, a Kenneth Cole bracelet and lots of other goodies.

So get clipping, my dear ones. You can use my mini editor (featured above) for initial inspiration.

Barneys CEO Mark Lee‘ continues to shake things up.

Last month Barneys fashion director Julie Gilhart and Judy Collinson, executive vice president and general merchandise manager of womenswear, were ousted.

Today, Barneys sent out a press release announcing that Dennis Freedman, formerly the creative director at W, would succeed Simon Doonan as creative director. But lest you were worried that meant Doonan, the face of Barneys, was out, fret not: he’s been “promoted” as the specialty retailer’s new “Creative Ambassador-at-Large.”

It’s a pretty funny title and sounds kind of made up, but then again fashion houses love to have brand “ambassadors” so it follows that a retailer could have one too. So what does it mean? And more importantly, will Doonan still do the windows?

For the New Year, we’ll forgo resolutions about what we will do and focus instead on what others should. (Less personal responsibility always better.) Since we’re all for the welfare of this industry and the designers who fuel it, we’ve crafted a list of dream collaborations which could generate huge buzz and dollars. Or maybe not. Read on, enjoy and pray with us that the Fashion God’s make this happen.

American Apparel Gets All NSFW Again: Just when you thought American Apparel was toning down its racy ads, featuring Dov and his creative team hard at work and fully clothed, or using illustrations of naked girls instead of actual naked co-eds, there is this series of NSFW ads. Look! College girls climbing trees with no pants on (who doesn’t do that in college!?) and painting their nails topless in a room full of mannequins. That’s not creepy at all. {Copyranter}

Fashion People are Having Babies: Victoria and David Beckham have confirmed they’re expecting a fourth child sometime this summer (maybe she’ll finally get a girl to dress up!), Miranda Kerr gave birth to her first child with husband Orlando Bloom and Marion Cotillard is pregnant with her first child with partner Guillaume Canet. Fertile times for fashiony folk! {People, x17, and People}

Kate Middleton Gets Branded: Using Kate Middleton’s name to endorse a product might now be a sue-able offense, so say “royal aids and legal experts.” {Vogue UK}
