Tumblr, the image-heavy platform beloved by top fashion bloggers like Tavi Gevinson and Jessica Quirk (What I Wore), is focusing more of its energy on the fashion industry.

In fact, it’s sending more than 20 of its bloggers to New York Fashion Week. Participating Tumblrs include What I Wore; Peace, Love, Chanel; SaraZucker.com. About eight hail from New York, but the rest will be flown in for the nine-day event. They’ll receive complimentary flights, accommodation, and will be whisked off to lunches, dinners, and cocktails with a roster of to-be-confirmed brands and designers. And of course they’ll receive access to several New York Fashion Week shows, says Rich Tong, Tumblr’s newly-annointed fashion director. (Specific shows are also yet-to-be confirmed.) They’ll also be attending the the Independent Fashion Bloggers’ conference, the Bloglovin awards, and an end-of-week party. To make the bloggers’ coverage of events and shows even more visible, Tumblr will host a real-time feed of their content at Tumblr.com/nyfw, mixed in with content from other “media partners.”

Dawn Simorangkir, who designs Boudoir Queen, a line known for 1920s-inspired frocks and intricate corsets, is suing Courtney Love over defamatory tweets that she claims ruined her fashion career, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Back in March of 2009, Love tweeted something along the lines of that Simorangkir (her married name is Dawn Younger-Smith) was a “drug-pushing prostitute with a history of assault and battery who lost custody of her own child,” and that “she has received a VAST amount of money from me over 40,000 dollars and I do not make people famous and get raped TOO!”

Love had been a devoted fan of Simorangkir’s designs, wearing custom pieces created for her and shopping Boudoir Queen’s popular Etsy shop (more bitterness unraveled on Etsy as well). Things fell apart when, according to Simorangkir, Love refused to pay up for several thousand dollars worth of clothing.

We had some idea that things had gone sour between the two when a crazy commenter war broke out in a story we posted about Love’s love for Boudoir Queen and her Etsy shop. And even if Simorangkir’s career suffered after Love’s tweet-rade, she showed a lovely collection four months ago at Austin Fashion Week.

Elizabeth Olsen, sister of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, stars in V‘s upcoming “Discovery” issue, which features plenty of young Hollywood’s rising stars. Fashionista contributor John Ortved wrote the piece on Olsen, who was nominated by Chace Crawford to be the issue’s “New Ingenue.” John writes: “Unlike her famous child-actor sisters, this is her first real kick at the can. Instead of using their near-infinite connections, Olsen has taken the long road – studying acting, educating herself, working as an understudy.”

Not only does she resemble her oh-so-famous sisters physically, the 21-year-old actress looks like she might have a flair for fashion as well.

Inspired by The Secret Garden, Mulberry’s Spring 2011 campaign–shot by Tim Walker and styled by Edward Enninful–is pretty pleasing. Especially to those of us obsessed with the 1911 novel. Of course it helps that models Lindsey Wixson and Nimue Smit are perfect. Click through for the rest of the campaign. Read more »

Emmanuelle Alt To Take The Reigns At French Vogue?: WWD has it from “industry sources” that French Vogue‘s fashion director, Emmanuelle Alt is rumored to be on the short list to replace Carine Roitfeld as editor. Apparently Virginie Mouzat, Le Figaro’s fashion editor, is still in the running as well. {WWD subscription required}

Roland Mouret Does NOT Ghost Design For Victoria Beckham, OK?: There were always rumors that Mouret had a hand in designing Victoria Beckham’s well-received collections and one journo recently asked him about it. Here’s what he said: Mouret retorted with the following outburst: “Oh my God, that question! Politicians, movie stars, it’s always the first things they want to know and I’m like, why? Why would I want to design a collection for Victoria Beckham? Yes she is a friend and yes she asks for advice and yes I told her the name of a pattern cutter, but she has lots of friends she asks for advice – Marc Jacobs. I like to help people that’s all.” {Telegraph}

Jennifer Aniston, Reporter?: Jennifer Aniston interviews her Just Go With It costar Nicole Kidman in the latest Harper’s Bazaar and she’s pretty good at it. And then they do this thing where they’re all “You’re pretty,” “No, you’re pretty!” which is funny. {Harper’s Bazaar}

Kellwood Acquires Rebecca Taylor: Kellwood Co. continues their acquisition spree with Rebecca Taylor. Last year they acquired Adam, by Adam Lippes, and Isis. The Daily Front Row is reporting that Kellwood has Gryphon in their sites next. {WWD subscription required}

The Sundance Channel has released the first episode of Joe Zee‘s new reality show, All On The Line, presumably to create buzz on sites like this one. We unfortunately don’t have time to watch it right now, but if you do, let us know what you think in the comments below.

Update: Looks like Sundance didn’t mean to pub the episode. Roops. We’re trying to get it for you, somewhere, somehow. In the meantime, watch this video of Joe being funny: Read more »

Every month or two, Manhattan magazine hits my mailbox, and I flip through it with a mixture of glee and disbelief. It’s one of those free city mags published by Modern Luxury Media, and I love their take on what’s new and “hot,” because it’s often things that are completely inaccessible to most of the population.

In the January/February edition, they listed the top 11 beauty items for 2011. Of course a La Mer product was on there, as was something containing argan oil, the trendy ingredient that is popping up in everything lately. Inexplicably, there was also a lilac Essie nail polish. Not a fan. Anyway….

Then I came to the Philip B. Russian Amber Imperial Conditioning Creme, which is $150 for a six ounce tube.

InStyle.com reports that Calypso St. Barth is the next brand to collaborate with Target. The beachy label, favored among preppy and boho girls alike, will produce a summer collection for the big box retailer, priced from $1.99 to $79.99. The range will include clothing and accessories for women and children, plus candles, pillows and glassware.

While there are no images available yet, we’re pretty sure there will be a version of Calypso’s famed Loreal dress in the mix. The crinkled silk dress was so popular amongst a certain set a few summers ago, you couldn’t step a foot inside the West Village without spotting one. Expect some bridesmaid-worthy pieces, too, as those are a big part of the label’s business.

Rumors swirled last month that Blake Lively was in Paris shooting a handbag campaign for Chanel and now it’s official: the Gossip Girl star is confirmed as the face of Chanel’s new Mademoiselle handbag line, WWD is reporting. Lively was shot by the Kaiser himself for the campaign, which is set to run in April glossies.

Lagerfeld photographed Lively at Chanel’s famous headquarters on the Rue Cambon on that iconic mirrored staircase.

Lively, 23, has made her love for the brand known–she’s walked many a red carpet in Chanel, was a front row presence at Chanel’s AW 2010-2011 couture shows last July, and made an appearance at the opening of Chanel’s SoHo store in September.

Apparently the feeling is mutual. We were clued in to Chanel’s interest in Lively when Anna Wintour, in her editor’s letter in the December issue of American Vogue, made a reference to Karl “scouting” Lively. And now the Kaiser is expressing his unabashed adoration for the starlet.

“She’s a kind of American dream girl…I think she will become a great actress,” Lagerfeld told WWD, also noting that he thought Lively’s name was an apt descriptor for the actress who is “full of life.”

Full of life indeed. Lagerfeld’s enthusiasm for Lively is no match for her excitement for the brand. Just as she teared up over her love for Louboutin, Lively seems sincere in her undying love for Chanel.

Anja Rubik and Sasha Knezevic are Engaged!

Tuesday, Jan 4, 2011 / 5:56 PM

Supermodel Anja Rubik‘s longtime boyfriend and fellow model Sasha Knezevic proposed on Christmas, Modelinia is reporting. The couple model together on occasion, last year they launched launched a magazine, 25, together, and now they’re making it official. All we can say is their kids are going to be ridiculously good looking. Congrats!

Dear Chris,
I’m a first year international marketing student at a university in London. I really want to pursue a career in fashion marketing, but unfortunately my uni does not offer internships for the first years students–not even advice.

How can I get into the whole London fashion vibe other than shopping? Do you know what an inexperienced but determined, fashion-loving girl can do?

Cheers and Thank you.
