After rumors at the end of the year pinning the sale of Lagardère’s American magazine titles to Bauer Media, the publishers of Life & Style, Daily Front Row is reporting (via Bloomberg) that the the French publishing house plans on teaming up with Hearst instead. After all, rumors of a Hearst partnership have been circulating for almost a year, and we’ve heard that the rumor was pretty much confirmed to Lagardère’s US staffers in December.

Of course, this doesn’t indicate that it’s definitely going to happen–talks could break down–but it probably will. So what does this mean for Elle staffers?

After 15 years in the shoe biz, Jimmy Choo is launching its first fragrance, exclusively at Saks Fifth Avenue on Jan. 15. And co-founder Tamara Mellon is the chest, er, face of the scent.

The scent will simply be called Jimmy Choo. “We’ve transitioned into a lifestyle luxury brand, and it seemed like the next natural step for us,” Tamara Mellon, co-founder and chief creative officer of Jimmy Choo, told WWD at a London event to launch the fragrance. “Fragrance is such an important accessory for women — I think it will have a very broad reach. Our customer is every woman.”

The juice, three years in the making, was created by Olivier Polge of International Flavors & Fragrances, and it’s a fruity chypre with green top notes, as well as exotic tiger orchid, sweet toffee and Indonesian patchouli notes.

“Fragrance is something that’s very… personal,” said Mellon, to a room full of beauty editors at the New York launch event, where she revealed that her favorites as a teenager included Opium and Anaïs Anaïs. “I love the smell of green fresh notes, they’re in the top notes of our fragrance. I like things that are sensual, so that’s how we came in with the patchouli.”

Which pop star hated an image from an upcoming editorial spread so much, she told the fashion editor in charge that she would sing at the his/her kid’s next birthday party if the picture was kept out of the magazine?

Even though images from Tom Ford’s über exclusive über-hyped spring show have been released (first in Harper’s Bazaar UK), and we’re starting to see the collection sweep covers and editorials–from Julia Restoin Roitfeld in V to Emily Blunt in that same blue fringed dress on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar UK–they can’t convey what it was like to be there like this footage from the actual star-studded show. Looks like Anna Wintour’s obsession with Blake Lively (she’s covered the mag three times, including Vogue‘s Best Dressed supplement) hasn’t paid off.

According to statistics released by Audit Bureau of Circulations (as reported by WWD), Blake Lively is glossy mag poison. Her June Vogue cover was the third worst-selling issue of the year and her Esquire cover was the worst-seller of the year. (Her Allure cover, however, was that mag’s best selling issue so she’s not a total bomb–who would have thought her amazing bod would sell worse than a close crop of her face?)

Taylor Swift also proved deadly for mag sales, with newsstand sales for her April Elle cover running 60,000 less than average. Her November Glamour cover was the mag’s second-worst selling issue of the year, and Swift’s cover for Marie Claire in July was the monthly’s third worst-selling issue.

So who do you book if you want to sell?

By working with the best stylists in the world and cultivating my own styling practice over the last decade, I’ve learned the standards of conduct for styling. Contemplating the ethics of our industry, I’ve observed how the power players behave versus the mediocre. For my “Introduction to Styling” seminar, I’ve written a conversation about these ethics (or lack thereof), and I wanted to share a quick sample with you.
