PARIS–There is nothing that makes me happier than going to a really fancy restaurant, somewhere progressive (though it doesn’t have to be new, and the chef doesn’t need to be famous), and being sated by the simplest, most delicious food, made with the best ingredients. It can be original without being wildly experimental. And it can be bright, robust and flavorful, without reaching across the globe for different spices, textures and influences. This is how I felt walking into Y-3’s happy and laid-back F/W 2011 presentation, which was also a celebration of Adidas’ 10 years with Yohji Yamamoto.

Jean Paul Gaultier Jumps on the Androgyny Bandwagon: In JPG’s latest ad campaign, Karolina Kurkova goes in for a smooch with blonde bombshell Andrej Pejic, a male model (yes, male) known for his feminine look who walked in the designer’s menswear show rocking a dress. Huffington Post

Gaga’s Meat Dress For Your Doll: Japanese toy company Bandai enlisted a London College of Fashion student to create pint-sized versions of Lady Gaga’s most iconic get ups. The most difficult to construct? The infamous meat dress of course! Using Parma ham, the mini dress took the student two weeks to finish. Telegraph

PARIS–Lucas Ossendrijver designs Lanvin’s men’s line, not Alber Elbaz, the genius behind their women’s (and the character from Alice in Wonderland that Lewis Carroll never wrote). In his short time at Lanvin, Ossendrijver has blown critics away, transferring the simple, sporty elegance that Elbaz has brought to women’s across to men’s.

But Ossendrivjver and and Elbaz share more than an employer (that would be Taiwanese media heavy Shaw-Lan Wang).

PARIS–Having followed Thom Browne’s career since the beginning, I must admit I was a little fearful last July when for the spring season he showed one silhouette: Tightly fitted jackets and long short pants in endless permutations of fabrics. It would have been sad for men’s fashion if Mr. Brown had permanently abandoned his sense of humor, theatrics, creativity–and I would gather also his freedom–since he recently partnered with Cross Company, a Japanese apparel firm.

But this is not the case.

More drama over the Black Swan costumes: the film wasn’t even nominated for an Oscar for costume design. Nods went to Alice in Wonderland, I Am Love, The King’s Speech, The Tempest, and True Grit.

We already knew Rodarte’s Mulleavy sisters wouldn’t see any glory for their beautifully twisted and painstakingly made ballet costumes for Black Swan–despite the buzz that their names had garnered for the film. The Mulleavy sisters weren’t members of the Costume Design Guild when they worked on the film and were reportedly “naive” about movie credits. Kate and Laura Mulleavy ended up receiving a backend credit while Amy Westcott, who worked with director Darren Aronofsky on The Wrestler, received the front credit as costume designer, making Westcott the only one eligible for an Oscar. In an interview with Deadline, Westcott explained, “It was Natalie who recommended Rodarte. It was important to her and Darren asked me if it was OK. I met with Laura and Kate Mulleavy and I saw their feathered Vulture collection (I think it was Spring 2010). It seemed very appropriate.”

But now that whole controversy over Rodarte’s ineligibility for Oscar costume credit is moot. And it comes as a bit of a shock that the film was completely left off the list to be considered. Black Swan had already picked up best costume nominations from the Critics’ Choice Awards, Bafta and the Costume Designers’ Guild.

Oh, Tom Ford. You are a ridiculously amazing human who never fails to say and do ridiculous things. Take for example, Ford’s recent interview with John Currin in Interview. He says so many awesomely over-the-top things we couldn’t pick just one. Here are his top five quotes:

1. I lust after beautiful women. First of all, I love women. But I lust after beautiful women in the way that I lust after a beautiful piece of sculpture—this will probably get me in trouble—or a beautiful car. I believe everyone’s on a sliding scale of sexuality. There are moments where I am sexually attracted to women. But it doesn’t overpower my first impulse; my lust for them is the same as my lust for beauty in all things. It’s not like I ever think, “Oh, my god, I’ve got to spread her legs and fuck her.”

2. I’m an equal-opportunity objectifier
…I’m sorry, I don’t understand why our culture both worships and objectifies beauty, and then slams those of us who participate in it. Because I make that detachment, I’m capable of objectifying a beautiful woman, but that doesn’t demean her in any way. She’s beautiful because she’s a creature who exists physically, in the physical world, who happens to be in a moment of prime.

After Taylor Momsen was dropped from IMG, it was no surprise to learn her reign as the face of Madonna and Lourdes’ Material Girl line for Macy’s was coming to an end. The homepage of the Material Girl website still says that they are “desperately seeking” a new Material Girl to be the face of the brand, and has been asking readers to write in who they think should be the next Material Girl since January 11.

But the search is over. Material Girl has just announced on their twitter and then on their blog that they’ve selected Kelly Osbourne as the new face of Material Girl for 2011. “We’ve had a long time crush on Kelly and featured her as one of our “cool peeps” over the summer,” the blog reads, “We are so thrilled.”

Apparently the crush is mutual. After being featured as one of Material Girl’s “cool peeps” last summer, Kelly responded by writing, “to be thought of as an inspiration in that way is brilliant… I hope little girls look up to Lourdes because she doesn’t dress too grown up and she always looks so stylish,” Grazia is reporting.

Osbourne is a great (read: safer) choice to be the face of Material Girl.

We love Miu Miu. And we love Zoe Cassavetes. So this brief–but enticing–preview of the director’s short film for the brand easily stole our hearts. “The Powder Room” is the first film in a series called Women’s Tales, in which notable female filmmakers with unique points of view explore the female love affair with Miu Miu.

Cassavetes filmed at London’s Claridges hotel (swoon) and the models–Caroline de Maigret, Line Gost and Sophie Vlaming–are wearing Miu Miu Spring 2011 (double swoon).

The film will premiere in its entirety on MiuMiu.com imminently.

Every fashion season we watch the shows to see what trends will emerge–what will we be wearing in the coming months? Some trends last for up to two years, others are merely a flash on the runway. Camel? That trend is not going anywhere anytime soon. Velvet? Not so much. And we’re not sad about it. So here’s a look back at what stuck and what didn’t from last fall’s runways.

News just broke that Gisele Bündchen will cover Emmanuelle Alt‘s first issue of Vogue Paris. It should hit newsstands in March.

Modelinia reports that the Super was shot in St. Barts by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matatin. But what will she wear?

We’d bet several dollars–if it wasn’t, you know, illegal–that Bündchen will be decked out in Balenciaga for this spread.
