Rachel McAdams walked the red carpet for the London premiere of “Morning Glory” yesterday. While the movie was meh, her sartorial choices for this event were anything but.

She’s taking a bit of a beating in the press today, which is typical for any actress who chooses a dress that is the slightest bit fashion-y and not made by Marchesa. However, while I always applaud risk taking and originality, did Rachel get in over her too-teased head this time?

The Dress: It’s a Suno S/S 2011 dress originally shown with a shirt underneath–a much more casual look. Rachel chose (or was convinced by her stylist) to wear it without the shirt. The proportion of the thin strips of fabric in the front compared to the fuller skirt just seems off and is reminding me a bit of the Borat mankini. But she looks completely comfortable and I’m certain that there was no danger of a wardrobe malfunction.

The Shoes: Purple satin Charlotte Olympia. Too heavy for the dress or a good contrast?

The Hair: The teased crown is very 1960s, possibly too literal in this case. The waves and color look fantastic, though.

The Makeup: You need a close-up for this one. Her eyes are oh-so-on-trend for this spring, the upper lids lined with bright yellow. Skittles-colored eyes were everywhere on the S/S 2011 runways: orange at Derek Lam, yellow at Peter Som, green at Betsey Johnson. Rachel ripped this look right off the runway. I think it works. While a little disconcerting at first, it’s nice to see something besides the requisite red carpet smoky eye.

What do you think of Rachel’s look?

I agree that there’s an imbalance in the top and bottom halves of the dress, and that the shoes are too heavy…but I still like the overall look for some reason.

I’d keep everything but the dress.

Odd, I would make her take that dress off too lol.

I like her acting. She seems like she is a bit more reserved and more confident than many other actresses her age. The film that enjoy her most in is “Wedding Crashers”.

The individual components are good, but together it just doesn’t work. She’s gorgeous though
