LONDON–The signature draping was there, but designers Maki Aminaka Löfvander and Marcus Wilmont set aside the serenity of previous collections for a harder-edged Fall 2011.
This time, their hunter-gatherer of a girl wore spliced-together draped animal print dresses, washed leather jackets and hoof-like wedge booties.
Several dresses could have walked straight off the catwalk and into London–other pieces, not so much. Tiny wool shorts with a leather panel puckered unappealingly, and those sweatpants with the wide rolled waistbands risked bulking up even the models.
Still, a narrow-armed shearling waterfall jacket and bruise-like tie-dye print (prettier than it sounds) were standouts. We were tempted to try the basket-like baby braids that lent models such an elfin air, and trend alert: the show marked the first appearance of the thigh-high stockings that have appeared over and over at LFW. Hunting? Only for hosiery, thanks.
