Yesterday morning marked the unofficial start of New York Fashion Week, with intimate presentations from contemporary designers John Patrick (Organic) and Jason Cauchi (Dallin Chase.)

We first stopped by Skylight West to view Patrick’s latest effort, a mix of 1930s and ’40s-inspired floral house dresses, windowpane plaid suiting, and buttoned up blouses that would slide their way easily into any Refinery 29-lovers wardrobe. We were particularly taken with a longish, military-inspired blazer in a wool berry, as well as the designer’s collaboration with Hunter, the wellies maker. Patrick used the brand’s new leather line, which looks like a traditional boot with a rubber heel but the rest is made of a waxy leather. The result was cute, without looking forced. Kind of like the entire collection.

Dallin Chase, another line for young, cool girls, showed just up the street at Cauchi’s studio space, filled by 11am with giddy editors cupping hot cocoa. We’ve been following this label since the beginning, and we’re very impressed with its progression. What started with a capsule of easy dresses has transformed into an entire look. This season, that meant frocks topped by chunky knits, luxurious fur coats, cropped leather jackets and even some sequins. “She’s the same girl, but she wants more,” Cauchi told us. More, in this case, is good, especially when it comes to the wool hiking socks that Cauchi embellished with dainty silver studs.

Ummmm….I hope this doesn’t sound weird, but did anyone else’s mind IMMEDIATELY go to (semi-)frequent commenter Esse upon viewing the main photo for this post?

I can soooo see her in many of these looks. I peruse her blog fairly often, and the styling in these shots is just very reminiscent (at least, to my eye) of the looks that I see her put together. LOVES IT.
