Predicting what the nominees will wear to the Oscars is trickier than picking the winners.

There are probably over 100 amazing Oscar-worthy dresses that walk the runway each season, but the reality is that most celebs would rather stick with a safe choice than a fashion forward one. This year, however, the nominees have a better fashion history than most. Nicole Kidman has turned heads in Galliano and Balenciaga, Michelle Williams favors the up-and-coming crowd, and Hailee Steinfeld is not afraid to take a daring risk, be it in Prada or Prabal.

Click through to see what I hope the nominees are wearing this Sunday.

MILAN–Anna Molinari moved away from her colorful Capri prints for Blumarine‘s Fall 2011 runway collection. Instead, she focused on glossy basics. In the first group of looks, there was lots of double faced wool and knits in navy, grey, and black. (Each group entered the stage together and then began walking one after another.) The second introduced a pop of primary and secondary colors, done in rich, saturated hues. Finally, the Italian designer went back to her roots, with a bit of sexy black lace.

Out of everything, we liked the knit trousers best, mostly because they looked flattering and insanely comfortable. Oh, and it was nice to see Coco, Stam, Chanel, et al. together on the runway.

You’ve probably heard that Gen Art–the beloved arts organization dedicated to showcasing the talents of emerging artists, musicians, filmmakers and designers–was revived this week under new leadership. Sandow Media acquired the arts organization, installing Gen Art vets Elizabeth Shaffer and Jeffrey Abramson as co-presidents.

And with the revival of Gen Art comes the revival of Fresh Faces in Fashion, the program which famously launched the careers of Zac Posen, Phillip Lim and Vena Cava (to name a few). Except this go round, Gen Art plans to put more effort into nurturing the talented designers they take on beyond giving them a runway show.

“At the former Gen Art, once we made the intro and showcased designers, we let them go on their way,” said co-president Elizabeth Shaffer. “Now we’re developing a relationship so we stay connected and offer services beyond their debut–ranging from licensing to representation.”

Introducing Highlight, a new series in which we feature a photograph from a personal style or street style blog that perfectly demonstrates a trend, shows off particularly stand out style, or is just a great photo. And we’re talking beyond the Sartorialist and Fashion Toast here–we’re scouring the fashion blogosphere.

This week’s image comes from Denmark’s Anywho. Founded by Ingrid, Elise and Stephanie in 2008, the three trendy Danes have been blogging their own outfits, fashion week reviews and photographs of their stylish peers on a daily basis. I love checking out the site to observe their ability to impeccably mix and match thrift store treasures with Scandinavian designs. It doesn’t hurt that the three girls are gorgeous and have flawless taste.

Vena Cava‘s Sophie Buhai and Lisa Mayock announced Wednesday at Fashion Group International’s panel on entrepreneurship that they will be collaborating with Uniqlo. It’s a juicy little tidbit of news that we nearly missed because the designers mentioned it so offhandedly (luckily Fashion etc., didn’t and reminded us).

Collaborating with brands is nothing new for Vena Cava. They’ve partnered in the past with Gap, Aqua for Bloomingdale’s and Converse.

The Gap collab was a struggle, Sophie said, because “Vena Cava is not a khaki brand”, and she and Lisa are “pretty far from preppy.” The design duo went on to weigh out the pros and cons of doing collaborations–one the one hand, lower-priced collaborations with big brands are a great way to reach the mass market and a new audience, and bottom line, make money, but they would never want work on a collaboration that wasn’t true to their brand.

We broke the news last month that Lady Gaga‘s first fragrance would smell like blood and semen. (We also pointed out she’s not the first to use semen as inspiration for a fragrance.)

Now Lady Gaga has confirmed our report, telling Australian radio hosts Kyle and Jackie O, “I wanted to extract the feeling and the scent of blood and semen from molecular structures, so that’s where that [report] came from.” Molecular structures? Sound confusing? Gaga explained: “[Blood and semen] is in the perfume but it doesn’t smell like that–you just get the after feeling of sex from the semen and the blood is primal.”

And when Lady Gaga says “primal” she means it. The “blood” part of her fragrance is actually derived from her own blood. “It was taken out of my own blood sample so it’s a sense of having me on your skin.” It seems like an audacious presumption but after seeing the dedication of Gaga’s little monsters at her show at MSG Tuesday night, we’re sure fans will be scrambling to spritz themselves in Sang de Gaga.

When asked what Gaga thought the fragrance smelled like overall she replied, “the perfume smells like an expensive hooker.” Of course it does.
