Fashion News Roundup
Fashion News Roundup: Super Bowl Style Tips, Farrah Fawcett’s Swimsuit is Heading to the Smithsonian, and Kate Moss is Getting Hitched?
Wedding Bells for Kate Moss: Rocker Jaime Hince, Moss’s boyfriend of three years, reportedly proposed with a vintage 1920s rock from jeweler S.J. Phillips. Moss has been spotted flaunting the ring around town. (Although she’s been “reportedly” engaged like a gazillion times, so who knows.) {Grazia}
SoHo Gets a Fab New Neighbor: A new Helmut Lang boutique opens on February 8th on the corner of Spring and Mercer, and as if we weren’t excited enough, the store will also carry the new Theysken’s Theory collection. {Elle}
Rumor Control–Keira Knightley for Tom Ford: Despite reports that the actress had been chosen as the face of Tom Ford’s first womenswear collection, a spokesperson for the designer confirmed that the rumors are false. What a tease! {Fashion, etc}

Kira Plastinina–the Russian teen designer, best known for epic failure in the US market–is showing at New York Fashion Week on February 17.
The brand filed for Chapter 11 in January of 2009 with $54 million in debts owed to more than 100 creditors. Somehow, they were able to relaunch last November, under the moniker Lublu. She’s even got a store in Los Angeles. (A little background–Kira’s dad is a Russian dairy tycoon worth over $600 million. He is clearly her major backer.)
Click through to browse some looks from Kira’s spring collection. Why we’re so fascinated with her, we’re not quite sure, but we do know that we’ll be at the presentation.

Is Jennifer Aniston ready for the return of The Rachel? Probably not, but she agrees that the famous cut was cute at the time, despite recent reports suggesting she said otherwise. “It was all anyone ever wanted to know about, all Chris ever got asked to do,” Aniston told WWD. “I liked it at the time, but I started to grow it out after about eight months. But it just wouldn’t die.”
We agree, it was just too much. But Kate Moss’ new Aniston-inspired hairstyle does look good. So all you Rachel Cut-haters are going to have to adjust. Because if Miss Moss says it’s back….

If you have any hair at all on your head and live in a cold climate, you’ve probably experienced that most annoying of hair situations: static. All of a sudden the ends of your hair are flying away and it feels like all hydration has been sucked out.
We’ve discussed ways to deal with this here at Fashionista, but nothing seems ideal. Leah knows girls who use Static Guard. I recently rubbed Vaseline Intensive Care lotion onto my ends. It got rid of the static, but you can imagine what my hair looked like then. A quick online search revealed that you should use a dryer sheet. I was skeptical.
I decided to ask an expert for tips on how to deal with this tragic problem. (OK, OK I know it’s a decidedly first-world problem. We’re not curing cancer. Or seeking democracy.)
Anyway, Kristina Reynoso at the Warren-Tricomi Madison Avenue Salon here in NYC was kind enough to provide the answers.

It was a mix of two pleasures that drew the fashion crowd into Gucci‘s Madison Avenue store last night; the combined launch of Gucci’s made-to-order Bamboo bag and a preview of works that will be up for auction March 10 at Christie’s Contemporary Art Sale.
The store was filled with a mix of art, cocktails and luxurious leather goods with guests enjoying the teeniest of hor d’oeuvres. A Mark Rothko was perched between vintage Gucci handbags, and a whole wall was dedicated to the classic bamboo Gucci bag. The bag is available in three sizes, and is now available made to order in any color, texture and finish (be that plain or patent) crocodile leather that you so desire. You can also choose your own hardware and have your initial’s hand stamped on the inside of the bag. With the largest bag starting at $17,000, one of the extra-special touches is a letter from creative director Frida Giannini herself half way through the process.

Devi Kroell, the New York-based designer, who was ousted from her namesake label last May, is back.
WWD reports that Kroell will launch a new label, the moderately priced Dax Gabler, at New York Fashion Week on February 16.
The collection of outerwear, shoes, and handbags will begin at $250 and top out at $890. While not cheap, it’s a lot more affordable than the collection that made her famous, which was predominantly snakeskin.

COPENHAGEN–Susanne Rützou’s AW 2010/11 collection, presented last night at Copenhagen City Hall, was pretty: slouchy and sexy with feminine details like ruffles and floral prints. And for the most part, Rützou was just that–pretty–with the exception of one show-stealing gold brocade cocoon coat that pushed the envelope a bit.
She showed loose silk printed blouses paired with tapered pants (which were sometimes sequined and patterned as well) or with pencil skirts in brown tweeds, made more casual when belted with wide studded leather belts. Slinky dresses with dolman sleeves were loosely gathered with drawstrings. For the most part, the palette was pleasing– blues, royal and navy, were paired with blush-tone and brownish prints–but things got a bit off track towards the end, when dresses came out in vivid reds and turquoises, which cheapened the look. Thank goodness for that cocoon coat–in it the model was like a butterfly in her chrysalis.
Check out the collection.

Copenhagen’s Nom de Plume Introduces Us to the Strapless Men’s Onesie (and We’ve Got Video)
COPENHAGEN–Following Ecco’s kick-off event, avant-garde label Nom de Plume (and by avant-garde we mean really out there) showed their AW 2011 menswear collection at the Royal Danish Academy of Music. If you thought, like I did, that “Royal Danish Academy of Music” meant fancy setting, and you thought “Nom de Plume,” meant fancy French-inspired designs, you would be wrong.
The show was set in what seemed to be a small performance space/rehearsal room that hadn’t been updated since the 1960s and the show opened with two men dressed as samurai running around the room waving red flags. Which is fitting since the show was titled “Shinobi No Mono” (this apparently means “he who is hidden” in Japanese) and the first section of the show was very literally Japanese-inspired: from kimonos to getas duct-taped to the models feet to geisha-esque red lip smears. The show lost the Japanese thread about halfway through and there were steampunky looks, and several guys in white linen blouses and black bottoms that looked inspired by Jean-Paul Gaultier–not his clothes but the man himself. But most importantly, Nom de Plume introduced us to a tailored strapless onesie for men–albeit with a collared button down attached (it was not at all like this other Scandinavian onesie we love so much). It was rag tag and amazing nonetheless, mostly because of the earnestness of it all.

Pre-Fashion Week Mad Libs: Band of Outsiders Designer Scott Sternberg!
By Steff Yotka
Band of Outsiders is an office obsession. So we’re elated that designer Scott Sternberg is staging his first-ever runway show on February 12. To Scott, we say: Congrats! And thanks for producing such a cute/hilarious Mad Lib.
I grew up in a cottage on Lake Michigan, just hours from the Canadian border. As a Midwestern girl, I appreciate unassuming, practical clothes. My boots should keep my toes warm and I want to wear the same shirt twice a week, without anyone noticing. This is why I’m a little obsessed with clothing designed by our neighbors to the North. The Canadian brands I love are simple and sophisticated. The outerwear blocks the weather and the under layers are beautiful and basic. Perfect for the cottage or the city: I swear.
