Every year there’s a new slew of gorgeous, fashion forward, model-type girls that we get slightly obsessed with. From the cool way they style their vintage finds and lust-worthy designer duds, to the fashion shows and parties that they always seem to attend, we’ll admit it, these are the girls we’d love to trade lives with. Here’s who we’ll be keeping our eyes on this year; if only for style tips.

Sophie Theallet is always wearing red lipstick. Except for, that is, the day the Nine West team visited her Brooklyn flat to begin work on her capsule collection for the brand. (It’s set to hit select stores this May.)

“For my first meeting with Nine West I wasn’t ready for them…they all came into my apartment and I said, ‘Oh, you’re here! But I don’t have my red lipstick on!’”

Luckily, it worked out. Because Theallet was most certainly wearing red lipstick–a lovely Bordeaux color, if you must know–at last night’s event celebrating her collection with the shoe super label. It’s the first collaboration Nine West has done with a ready-to-wear designer in years. (Vivienne Westwood, Thakoon and Sophia Kokosalaki teamed up with the brand in 2006.) The French designer, who lives in Brooklyn and works at a brand new studio in Manhattan, was not only excited to team up with Nine West, but the brand’s creative director Fred Allard. (Who also happens to be French.)

Is it ever OK to match your makeup to your outfit? Not just coordinate. I mean go full-on matchy-matchy. This is the question consuming us today thanks to the sharp eyes at Gawker, who noticed that Paz de la Huerta always matches her lipstick to her dress.

In case you don’t know Paz, she’s an actress in HBO’s Boardwalk Empire and did some indie projects prior to that. She has a reputation for being naked a lot. There’s an absolutely brilliant profile of her in New York Magazine which states, “Paz only wears black, so as not to detract from her personality.” Apparently that’s changed now that she has to promote her show and hit the red carpet regularly. She’s got the lipstick wardrobe to prove it. (I won’t comment on some of the other makeup issues she has happening in the pictures.)

I’m completely torn on this. Just yesterday I was admiring a pic of Anna Dello Russo on Jak & Jil in which her hot pink lipstick matches her Prada fur stole. Is that better or worse than matching it to your whole dress?

Around this time of year, the Fashionista office becomes flooded with invites. But before we even step foot inside Lincoln Center, there’s the matter of pre-fashion week coverage. We approach it by doing our own take on Mad Libs. But there’s one part of the pre-fashion week puzzle that just doesn’t sit right with me: a collection sneak peek.

Whether it’s a sketch or an image, I really, truly don’t want to see the clothes until they hit the runway, whether I’m in the audience or watching the live stream from my desk. Why? Because for me, there’s still something magical about seeing clothes on models–The way they’re styled, the soundtrack…. I want to be surprised.

I know I’m spoiled in that I do get to see these clothes in person and up-close. But does anyone share my sentiment? Do you like runway show previews and collection sketches? Or would you rather be surprised by the real thing?

Last night television provided audiences with yet another romanticized depiction of what it’s like to work and intern in the fashion industry. This time, the culprit was Gossip Girl.

On the episode, Blair Waldorf and Dan Humphrey eagerly began their first day as lowly interns at the high fashion glossy, W. Though the scenes were filmed in the actual W offices and featured staffers as extras, the inaccuracies of the plot line would make anyone who has ever spent hours slaving in a fashion closet cringe.

First of all, wearing heels is like intern suicide. Good luck running all over the city with an armload of garment bags, or loading trunks of shoes onto truck beds in those Miu Miu pumps, Blair!

NARS is so ubiquitous and popular you just naturally assume that there are boutiques all over the place. This is not the case.

For the first time since launching the makeup brand 16 years ago, Francois Nars will be opening a namesake, stand-alone boutique. It officially opens on February 10 at 413 Bleecker Street in NYC’s West Village. Really, it’s the perfect hood for this brand. So now you can grab a cupcake at Magnolia, pop into one of the many Marc Jacobs stores, hit up a gay bar or two, then grab some eyeliner. Not necessarily in that order.

The interior decor will apparently be a lot like the logo you see at the left. Black and pops of Jungle Red, one of the original 12 lipstick colors that launched Nars, will be the color scheme.

You can get updates on NARS’ facebook page before the big launch.

Ann Taylor‘s going Ivy League.

The wear-to-work retailer is looking to lure in clients before they even enter the workforce. But they’re not targeting just any college kid preparing to go on job interviews–they’re looking to cast five students from Columbia University to model for their online lookbook, which, according to a release, will be “a trusted resource that will provide female college/graduate students with fashion advice and career inspiration across a variety of different industries.”

This latest announcement fits with Ann Taylor’s recent efforts to revive and freshen up the brand: they just signed Katie Holmes as the face of the brand and have been putting out strong J.Crew-esque collections with particularly great accessories for the past few seasons. So it follows that they’re targeting a younger clientele.
