Rachel Zoe is far too pregnant to schlep to New York to show her debut contemporary collection at NYFW. Luckily, she’s released the full look book.
Zoe describes her collection as “uptown chic and downtown cool infused with Parisian elegance and London street style.” There’s a lot of YSL le smoking-inspired tuxes and suiting, and ’70s style boho silk blouses with bows and tiered ruffled dresses. It’s all very Zoe, even though, she previously told WWD, “I’d imagine everybody is expecting something from me that’s kind of a Seventies, uberboho-glam kind of thing, and, you know, very accessorized. And it’s not.” Judge for yourself. “Seventies uberboho-glam” or not, it’s all pretty cute and utterly wearable.

it looks good but nothing too outstanding.
its definitely for people who live glamorous lives. its cocktail wear.

It’s overly populated with tailoring, suits and jackets galore. Working women could wear this. That said, I would not.
Eh. I see a few cute pieces, but nothing particularly new or cutting-edge. If she was trying to be innovative, she didn’t succeed, but if she was trying to find cute, department-store-type clothing, she’s right on the mark.
It’s odd. I don’t “like” it, per say, but I appreciate that there are a ton of overt designer references that are not copying*, that seem to have the perfect level of inspiration for a lower-end. I think there’s going to be a big customer for this, if the price is right. Some of those coats would look terrible in real life, though. You can just imagine the crappy wool blend.
*except that black and white dress that is an established copy, and that bag that looks a lot like a floppy Birkin with a watchfob and a leash thrown on.
I look forward to reading your posts….you almost never fail to make me laugh.
you’re one of my favs too! never without an opinion
How incredibly inspiring….
It is a wearable collection – conservative too. I would be interested to see the quality as the garments are fairly expensive. It seems aimed at the over 30 market – it seems to me that few of the designs would appeal to younger women.
I must say that I’m disappointed… I think maybe that she was trying to play it safe on her first collection, but people don’t flock to Zoe because she’s “safe”. We want drama! Fun! Fashion!
That being said, she’s not an actual designer – so I feel that aiming for wearable pieces that are ON-trend rather than trend-SETTING makes sense. But some of these pieces are not only unoriginal, but they seem genuinely generic. Something that Zoe herself most definitely is not.
