Dolce & Gabbana Will Find Out Soon Whether or Not They Face a Criminal Trial for Tax Evasion
By Lauren Sherman
Last November, designers Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce were indicted for tax evasion. They each allegedly failed to pay taxes on about $569 million worth of income over the last few years.
According to the International Herald Tribune, the design duo behind Dolce & Gabbana will be told by Friday whether or not their actions warrant a criminal trial.
Scary, right? The good news for Dolce and Gabbana is that the whole scandal isn’t really a big deal in Italy, “where tax evasion is regarded by many people, including some in the fashion world, as a national sport,” explains the IHT. Giorgio Armani, for instance, was accused in a tax-bribery case and fined $64,000, but his nine month sentence was suspended. So while the duo could face up to three years in jail, they probably won’t.
We’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
