That hat. 1967.
The CFDA just announced that Lady Gaga would receive this year’s “Style Icon” award. Sure, her style is provocative, daring, and she certainly deserves the award. But was she the first to push fashion over the top in that headline grabbing way? Of course not. Before her there was Madonna, and before Madonna there was Cher and before Cher there was Elizabeth Taylor. The screen legend is known for many things: her acting chops, her incredible beauty, her seven husbands, her struggle with addiction, oh, and her incredible style. As a young ingenue she adhered to ’50s style–perfect for flaunting her curvy figure. But as she got older her style got bolder. Here, a look though at some of this original style icon’s most outrageously awesome fashion statements.

She was so hot
She’s the reason the word icon was coined.
Liz Taylor never had great personal taste in clothes. She generally looked her most beautiful in outfits chosen for her by wardrobe directors. I do think, however, that she looked really hot in that white shorts ensemble during her Richard 1 era. Unbelievably the tabloids were hounding her with “too fat”stories, when I think she looked fantastic.
You must say that this woman wrung every last drop of experience she could out of life and was bold enough to do things others only dream about.
She looked so gorgeous in an orange mini dress in 1982 at age 50. I love that photo.
