Five Things We Learned About Lauren Santo Domingo’s Beauty Routine, Starting With That She Doesn’t Wash Her Own Hair
By Leah Chernikoff
Lauren Santo Domingo opens up about her beauty secrets on Into the Gloss today. Want to know the secret? Pay other people to do everything for you–including wash your hair. Here are the top five gems:
“For hair—not like I wash my own hair, I can’t even remember the last time I washed my own hair—I have Avalon Organics shampoo and conditioner.”
“When I go out at night, I definitely trust the professionals—I get a blow-out, I get my makeup done—I just can’t be bothered to do it myself. I can do my makeup well, but I don’t feel as good…I just prefer to have it done for me.”
“I do a blowout once every five days, I go to De Berardinis, it’s right around the corner from my apartment. They have so many people, and every single one of them is good, which is so rare. I don’t really book appointments—I just call and say, ‘Do you have anyone in 20 minutes?’ That’s about as far in advance as I can plan. It’s usually when I have 100 emails to do—when I look at my phone and I see 65 emails, it’s my cue for a blowout. [Laughs] I’ve probably blown dry my own hair three or four times…I’m just bad at it and I don’t feel like learning, when there are such good hair stylists in New York.”
“And if you see me with a manicure, it means you must be the Queen of England. I can’t sit still that long, for a manicure. So I just go au naturale. I always feel really dorky with a manicure, to be honest. It feels so contrived.”
“I’m 8 ½ months pregnant and not much has changed—it’s been pretty easy, I haven’t had any sickness…I’ve been really really lucky. In fact, my hair has grown two inches! [Laughs] I’m the same size, in everything that goes above or below the bump.” (Completely unrelated to beauty but too good not to include.)

Love it when folks now their own wants and needs, and their limitations too.
I have a friend who always found the nearest Supercuts or Fantastic Sams…just for a wash and a blow dry for any dinner date or business meeting. Otherwise she was happy with her busy-girl-dirty-hair. Now, there are plenty of places set up just for make-up and blow-outs.
Cheers!
a new way of living stick to what you do best earn your money with it and let the rest be done by others who are good at what they do. LOVE it !!
i agree to always trust the professionals!!
I’m a guy and cannot relate to anything she says and yet…. she could easily be my new idol.
it’s time to get back in the basement…
I never wash my own hair either, glad I’m not the only one who is hair styling challenged lol!
you guys forgot to include the fact that she a) eats mashed potatoes and b) has never worked out. what planet is she from and can i please be from there?!?!?!
EATS MASHED POTATOES? DOESN’T WORK OUT? WHAT?
MILLIONS OF PEOPLE DO BOTH.
ARE YOU SERIOUS HERE? GET A GRIP LIZ.
If you do both and stay a sample size can you please lend me your metabolism :)?
you guys forgot to include the fact that she a) eats mashed potatoes and b) has never worked out. what planet is she from and can i please be from there?!?!?!
Sorry, but she sounds ridiculous. Not impressed.
She sounds like a brat.
To those of you who are impressed by this: get a grip and go read a newspaper.
What an arsehole…
THIS JUST COMES ACROSS AS SOMEONE BEING REALLY LAZY…..
IT’S NOT A BIG DEAL TO HAVE OTHER PEOPLE DO YOUR HAIR, REALLY. IT’S NY.
2 inches of hair growth during a pregnancy is nothing special special or unusual. My hair grows way more than 2 inches in 8 1/2 months. Maybe she means 2 inches a month?
And yeah, she sounds bratty but people like her help the economy. I have two friends who criticize my manicure habit but I do a crappy job on my hands and it takes me forever.
To each his own. I like Lauren overall but this has to be the height of bourgeois. For those of us who can’t afford a blow out every week and choose to wash our own hair (or who can afford one but aren’t above scrubbing their own scalp) – I salute you!
