Hailee Steinfeld Talks Prada and Personal Style At Miu Miu

PARIS--At Miu Miu's fall 2011 show this afternoon the label attracted a bevy of A-list starlets to their front row: Mila Kunis, Ginnifer Goodwin, Jennifer Lawrence, and reigning new princess of our best dressed lists, Hailee Steinfeld. The 15-year-old best supporting actress nominee--who is styled by the fabulous duo of Kemal & Karla--exploded onto the scene with her role in True Grit, and has proven that she's got the style savvy to back up her newly minted status as starlet-in-demand wearing Miu Miu, Prada and Prabal Gurung dresses on the red carpet that are adorable and gasp, age appropriate too.

She's worn Miu Miu several times in the past month, so it was no surprise to see her at the show today, but we wanted to ask her about that Prada dress. You know, the stripey one from Prada Spring 2011 that made every fashionista sit up and take notice. Andre Leon Talley even presented a blown up photo of Steinfeld's SAG awards look at the last Miu Miu Musing as an example of flawless red carpet dressing. (Talley also called her over to chat with him and Grace Coddington just before the show, as did Robbie Myers and Joe Zee from Elle.)

So how did she end up in the red carpet look heard round the fashion blogosphere?

"It was on the rack [at my fitting for the SAG awards] and it was the first thing that caught my eye," she told us at the show. "I went to it and I said, 'I have to try this on'...Normally I like to save the best for last in case nothing else works but I tried it on first and I didn't try anything else on because that was it, I loved it."

As for her personal style, which has her gaining steadfast support among fashiony types, she says she doesn't really have one.

"I find I don't have a specific style," she confessed. "I just know what I like. When I go to fittings I can pick right away what I don't want but I still try it on because a lot of the times for me I don't like it on the rack and then I put it on and it looks amazing."

Steinfeld is refreshingly down-to-earth for a teenager who has been flung into the spotlight overnight. She was grateful that her Miu Miu appearance was the one formal actress-y item on her Paris agenda, and brought along her bff Kate to the show. "This is my first time in Paris as a tourist," she said. "Before I've been stuck in hotel rooms doing press...I'm just looking forward to spending some time here."
