It is a truth acknowledged by all fashion folk that The Gentlewoman is a universally loved magazine. That’s why we’re super excited for issue three, covered by hit Brit singer Adele, whose album 21 was recently released in the US and the UK.

This cover is quite different from The Gentlewoman‘s first two issues, which featured Phoebe Philo with a calm blush background and Inez surrounded by a moody navy. Adele is the first non-fashion celebrity to grace the cover, plus she’s shown smoking and framed by the most neon of blues. What do you think of The Gentlewoman‘s new direction: Timely and fresh or edging too close to other fashion mags?

She IS gorgeous and so is her voice… but I agree with EightyJane, what’s with all the smoking?

i was disappointed to hear adele smokes in real life.

honestly, has the industry teamed with big tobacco to push smoking on us. Seems like cigarettes are more common than earrings in photos these days

I love this picture, it’s very Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffanys.

4 real the most elegant thing an insane smart team like fantastic man/ gentle women can come up with in 2011 is a star smoking on the cover? elegantly shocking you mean?

She’s beautiful. Love this cover.

Adele smokes. It’s a British publication. Adele is British. Give her and the magazine’s a damn break. It’s her decision, it’s a fabulous cover. The end.
