So Gaga is nothing if not an attention whore. We always wonder when her stunts will start to appear stale and she’ll run out of ideas for how to titillate. What do you think of her latest?

Lady Gaga took to her twitter account last night to post the picture (at left) to promote her Born This Way album, which drops on May 23.

In it she’s sporting prosthetic cheeks and those horn-like protrusions above her brows that first made an appearance at the Grammys. In a spread in the Spring 2011 i-D, shot by Mariano Vivanco, she’s got the same look going, but looks a little more filled out. (Check out the whole spread at Fashion Gone Rogue.)

Whatever you think of her constant changeling tendencies, she’s still conversation-worthy. She’ll undoubtedly be scolded for promoting anorexia. Some Daily Mail commenters noted that she’s always covering up her real face in some way because she’s not “beautiful.” Can you go deeper and say she’s challenging conventional notions of beauty? Is she just a freak? Or is she just becoming irrelevant in her over-saturation?

All I know is—we’re still talking about her.

Is it me or does she look like Debbie Harry in that top photo?

Seriously, what does anorexia have to do with this?? Her antics may become ‘stale’ but not before the press’ incessant need to make controversy out of nothing become tiresome and petty. I love you guys, Fashionista, but stop playing the childish games and find something else to report about if you’re tired of Lady Gaga.

O_O!!!

Another STAN!!!!

I think people will say she looks sickly skinny because of her fake cheeks, and that this will be made into promotion of an unhealthy body type. I do not think Fashionista was drawing from this line of thinking at all. They’re just saying that it’s expectable.
It would seem that we (you, me and Fashionista) all realize that not just skinny people have cheek bones. Besides that point, I am pretty skinny and I would kill for cheek bones. Maybe I’ll get some prothetics..

so, you used 168 words, to say ABSOLUTELY nothing…Is it the best you can do???

I’m just a total word whore I guess

Did you count or did you copy-paste and wordcount that? That’s a lot of effort for a little derision.

it was far LESS work than the writer’s apparently had…I like this blog but lately it is becoming to similar to Jezebel in plain bitchness…

Well, you only used 15 (minus the “168″) and said a hell of a lot more. PRESSED!

Bravo, honey…!

i agree with this article. it’s really sad reading assholes trying to justify all the faggotry she does. lady gaga has always sucked. she will be forgotten in a year or two

Could we not with the “faggotry”?

Can we perhaps not call women “whores” in any context? I love this blog, and it’s disappointing to read that here.

if we’re gonna split hairs over terminology here, can we also not use the term “faggotry?” seriously people, grow a new vocabulary or something. if you’re not down with the coverage than don’t read it, but there’s no debate that this woman is relevant to the industry, does things worth discussing, and happens to be pretty polarizing. doesn’t justify getting hateful.

I’m not digging the choice of “whore.” For a website that seems to promote respect of women, that’s a major mis-step.

Go back to Jezebel.com, thanks.

why is the word ‘whore’ bad? it’s actually a word. It’s not like “bitch” which means you’re a female dog because there’s no way a woman could be a dog but a whore is a woman who sells herself for sex. you don’t get called a whore unless you are a whore (or someone’s drunkenly cursing you out at a bar). My point is that unlike many other offensive derogatory words, when used in the right context it’s not mean or offensive or whatever people are saying. Because today we have man whores, attention whores, and fashion whores. it is not subject to gender but to a persons character (that’s the wrong word but i hope u get my drift).

just a correction before i get called out: I meant to say “a whore is a person who…” not “a whore is a woman…”

You are all way too deep for me. I’m getting to like Gaga – fun, free entertainment, I say. It’s interesting to me how she dresses up catchy, conventional pop songs with avant-garde costuming. She is a great favourite of the tabloids and gets free coverage in main stream media all the time. Great way to sell her banal musical products and make it feel subversive to her young audience.

i was thinking about this earlier this year but why are we condemning somebody for being creative? and is this not part of what makes lady gaga who she is as a person and a brand? Think about it, would you write a post how sick and tired you are of the pretty girl dress taylor swift wears? I don’t think so.

Im not Lady Gaga’s biggest fan but I can appreciate the creative process she puts in all she does music wise and image wise. She writes her own songs. And when it comes to fashion she’s knowledgeable and there’s a commentary or message in each look. She has an understanding on designers and garments that other pop artists don’t have. To me this softens the blows on the accusation of being an “attention whore”.

Its like dealing with Kanye’s egotism, his fans take it because he makes the great music he preaches. Point is, Lady Gaga do a heck of a lot more for her music than other artists do nowadays. It’s up to you whether you like that or not.

follow jerrlife.blogspot.com everyone!

Ugh. Lady Gaga’s such an anorexic, faggoty, bitch, slut, bad-music, attention whore. Oh, and she had sex with the devil. They have a sex tape coming out soon.

In this photo it looks like someone took a skull, stretched some very thin material over it, and then painted a face on it. Her mouth also looks slightly tilted there. Kinda makes me think of aliens.

I don’t think the pointy bits promote anorexia… maybe weird dinosaur people, but not anorexia.

I love Gaga and think that she is amazing, incredibly talented and creative but her overexposure is killing me. I do wish that she would go away for just a second. As it stands, she is constantly trying to force herself into the public consciousness and it is getting to be much too much, in the bad way. Sometimes one says more by saying nothing at all.

Again, I do love her but I guess what I am trying to say is, yes, I am of sick of her shenanigans. It kills me a bit to say that.

it’s getting tired…

She’s lost some of her spark where she’s making massive headlines in my opinion. Or maybe I’ve just gotten used to her that it isn’t really shocking or even exciting anymore. I’ve said before that her visuals have never been intriguing to me but the voice is another story. If she wore a paper bag over her head but still sang like she does, I’d be a fan!

I have liked Lady Gaga a lot but I am getting a little tired of her, which is the nature of being a famous pop star I suppose. What started as creativity has seemed to turn into a gimmick, and I think a talented singer’s work should speak for itself. Her costumes are interesting and fun, but its a bit sad if she thinks she needs to keep pushing the boundaries to remain relevant. Her voice and songs will shine on their own if she takes off the makeup.

Maybe she’s making FUN of the desire to be skinny above all else. Compare her photo to your “Meth Use Through The Years” article and the resemblance is uncanny.

Though I’m not on her twitter feed so I have no idea what text accompanied the image.

Gaga is an artist who lives and breathes this industry to the core. I love the fact that she goes over-the-top and just plain outrageous. She lives up to her name and I am definitely not sick of Gaga’s shenanigans.
