Was Galliano drunk and egged on? Apparently. But we can each write one part of every script — our own. –Bridget Foley in WWD, regarding the demise of John Galliano.

So John, speaking as a member of the fashion community who has always been inspired by your work, I think we are all only waiting for you to publicly excuse yourself, to admit that what you said is just fucking crazy! But mostly that it’s not what you truly believe. If you can confirm this for us, the entire fashion world would be able to come back on your side. And I, personally, don’t want you to become an Internet pariah. I still want to see more John Galliano collections — you’re one of the last designers of my generation that still believes in the power of fashion to make us dream. –Olivier Zahm in Purple Diary

i truly believe that he didnt really mean what he said. he was just being a meanie. it appears to me that he was just trying to hurt those people’s feeling thats all. but yes what he did was wrong. and i want to hear him say his side story. i still support him.

And I choose not to support Mr. Galliano. He wasn’t egged on, he is simply one nasty, egomaniacal brat who believed he was irreplaceable. Well, he isn’t! He devolved into a foul-mouthed has-been.

^^ Yeah… I feel like that’s the case, too. I have heard some mean things said during crazy bouts of drunkeness (is that a word?) that i do believe people didn’t truly mean, just brought up because they thought it was the most hurtful thing.

That being said, if he DIDN’T mean it, yes it truly sucks for him, but I think his Dior contract should still have been terminated.

Yes Oliver, at least somebody gets it. Even if he meant it and would say it again, the only way to salvage a tiny part of his image is to claim that it was an incredibly poorly conceived joke, that these are not his real opinions while owning that he did express them. We know he did, although he denies the allegations from the more recent event, he has no option to deny the first. As I see it, the only way for him to move forward is to own his actions while condemning them. Filing a defamation suit and going to rehab for a mystery problem is obviously not going to sway the conversation in his favour.
