I’m from Texas, so without a little makeup I tend to feel naked. My beauty routine is more based on skincare than makeup but here’s my current kit. I like to keep my makeup clean for work days and shoot days. Sometimes I will put a little more on if I am going to a client’s event or if I am in a particularly menswear driven look, like look 3.
Makeup Kit:
- Benefit Dallas Blush
- L’Oreal Lash Out Mascara in Blackest Black
- Nars Blush Brush
- Anastasia Brow Gel
- Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge in Blushed Rose
- Shu Umera Eye Lash Curler
- MAC Foundation Brush
- Foundation Sponge
- Stila Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer
- Creme De LaMer The Powder
- Cle De Peau Foundation Corrector

I generally enjoy Sally’s posts, but I found this ridiculous. I’ve seen many top stylists show up to work dressed up like crap (running sneakers, sweats) or else just quite casually. True power means you don’t have to show effort to make an good impression on clients. Your work, instead of your clothes, will speak for itself. And how come I’ve never seen Sally snapped on any street style blogs then??
She makes the point that clothes, especially when they ARE your work, have a part in helping clients determine your ability and vision. This is really not outrageous. A business exec has to think as much about the appropriateness and effect of his/her clothes just as much as a top stylist. People judge you on these things.
Sally, thanks for letting readers into your closet, I’m always fascinated by wardrobe stories and it is especially interesting to see what a stylist wears herself (which would be an intimidating brief for most women).
where are sally’s black nikes, american apparel track shorts and huge run dmc t-shirts? those rick owens boots are ridiculous (and not in a good way)
Are you trying to malign her as a hipster or something? Confused.
i think you must find it as ridiculous as i do that people come on here anonymously criticizing sally in such negative ways. i have found her posts to be extremely informative and right on the money.
Great point! I work in the architectural and interior design industry and often times I wonder if anyone would let an interior designer who can barely coordinate her outfit, ‘design’ the decor of their restaurant, home, hotel, etc. I think its definitely an important part of marketing yourself and in this case, branding your style, since we’re talking about stylists after all. Thanks for sharing your tips! Absolutely adore your Hermes Medor watch – envy mucho!
I bow down to you Sally, love your posts, and every look is so unique, and original, you have style and them some!
That Vb dress? OMG loved it on its own, but you gave it edge, did anyone tell you for a blonde you have this ability to wear pinks so damn well, never in a tacky way!
