Yellow nail polish is one trend that keeps popping up year after year and just will not die. It seems to be fueled by whatever pop tartlet is embracing it that particular season. Rihanna did it in 2007. Katy Perry did in 2010. And this year, of course, Lady Gaga wore yolk-y yellow nails–courtesy of Deborah Lippmann–for her egg stunt at the Grammys.
This past weekend I saw three different tweets discussing yellow nails and sending Twitpics of freshly painted yellow nails. Will you wear this trend? I have to say I’m firmly against it.
I will, and have, tried pretty much every nail color that exists. But I won’t do yellow. It reminds me of hepatitis. Or nail fungus. While I loved Reese Witherspoon’s yellow Nina Ricci dress and am lusting after yellow Jil Sander sandals this season, I can’t wrap my head around the color as makeup. Yellow skin or nails is generally a sign that something is wrong with you. (I can’t do pink eye makeup for the same reason.)
I will admit though, that this picture I found of a modified French manicure with a yellow base and pink tips is pretty cute, in a pink lemonade sort of way. If you must try yellow nails, here are some options: Deborah Lippmann’s Yellow Brick Road; OPI’s Fiercely Fiona from the Shrek collection; Chanel’s Mimosa; and China Glaze’s Yellow Polka Dot Bikini.
I won’t judge you if you wear them but I’m not going to compliment you, either.
