There’s nothing better than a well-made chair. That is, except for a well-made shoe.
For those of us almost as obsessed with furniture as we are with fashion, Milan’s Salone Internazionale del Mobile furniture fair, which begins April 17, is one trade show that we’re sad we’re missing.
Of course, the city’s fashion labels love to participate in the week-long event, and this year they’ve really pulled out all the stops.
Marni, for instance, has set up a wondrous installation in the courtyard of its store on via Spiga 50. The temporary garden, replete with bushes, trees and plenty of plants, features small tables and chairs wrapped with long strips of PVC vinyl. (The plants will be donated to local schools once the installation is removed.) But what makes this little patch of green really special is artist Sarah Rossi’s video, Lanterna Magica (Spring). Created exclusively for Marni, Rossi’s video–colorful images of butterflies, water and blossomed trees–will be projected onto the walls and objects in the space.
And that’s just one example of what is going down in Milan next week. Can’t get to Italy by Monday? There’s good news. Yoox.com, our favorite place to buy discounted Margiela, is selling a selection of brand-new pieces presented at the fair from star brands like Established & Sons and Alessi.
