Although we’re still hoping that soon-to-be princess Kate Middleton will be wearing McQueen down the aisle on April 29, new rumors have surfaced to the contrary.

Quote of the Day: Carine on Anna

Monday, Apr 11, 2011 / 11:00 AM

She’s a politician; I’m a stylist. They are two very different jobs.

Carine Roitfeld on why she’ll never be Anna Wintour‘s replacement in Spiegel.

Heidi Mount called the cops on her husband Shawn late last week, claiming that she felt threatened by him and that he “had a knife,” the New York Post is reporting. The couple is allegedly going through a divorce and negotiating for custody of their four-year-old soon.

Hairstylist Shawn Mount was accused of sexually assaulting a model during the spring 2011 shows at London Fashion Week last September. The charges were subsequently dropped, and Heidi stood by her man throughout–it was just four months ago that Mount told the Post, ”We are still together. Nothing about these false accusations has changed our relationship.”

Now a nasty he said she said is unraveling in the tabloid. Sean told the Post:

In honor of bridal fashion week, designer Lela Rose has been kind enough to answer your wedding day style questions.

Hi Lela!

My question: traditional etiquette dictates that simple, small jewelry is more elegant for a bride. I am wearing a strapless dress and no veil, so was thinking about dramatic earrings, but concerned that it’s not appropriate. What’s your view on bridal jewelry? What looks best with a simple strapless gown?

Coachella is almost as much about the fashion as it is the music, so it makes more-than-perfect sense that Mulberry–whose parties nearly always including an awesome musical guest like Florence and the Machine, Hot Chip, or Kelis–is hosting a backyard BBQ during the festival.

Creative director Emma Hill will be lighting up the grill poolside at The Parker Hotel, accompanied by guest DJs Miike Snow and Teen Voguer Andrew Bevan.

And since this is Mulberry, anticipate appearances from a few of Coachella’s most-VIP attendees. (Kate Bosworth spent the whole of last year’s festival decked out in the label’s bags.)

Here’s a sneak peek at the invite.

LONDON–A bustling street party erupted last night, as Mawi launched its first store, as well as a full funfair spectacle in the realms of East London.

Headed by Indian-born Mawi Keivom, who introduced her eponymous jewelry line in 2003 after working for Isaac Mizrahi, Mawi still maintains its quirky niche, yet is one of those jewelry labels you can actually find. Now, with the opening of its first flagship concept store in London’s Shoreditch, the label treads new ground, translating the creative spirit of the design onto the shop-floor with a set theme–this season’s being a fairground (carnival) filled with gypsies, candy and balloons.

It’s difficult to leave John Derian‘s East Village boutique without buying something. Or several things. A purveyor of curiosities, Derian may be best known for his vintage inspired paperweights and plates, but his store is filled with everything from French notebooks to Hugo Guinness linoleum prints.

And as of last night, Repetto ballet flats have been added to the mix. But not just any slippers: these limited edition styles are the result of a collaboration between Derian and longtime friend/Repetto North America director Michael Flanagan.

“My friends have been wearing the shoes for so long–I just thought it was a good match. And the printing is amazing,” he told us at last night’s in-store event celebrating the partnership. Derian’s signature vintage prints adorn the shoes, giving the traditional ballet flat a subtly ornate touch.

As we made our way into last night’s Langoliers jewelry presentation at Good Units, the Hudson Hotel’s underground installation venue, our eyes instantly gravitated not toward the wearable works on display, but towards one of the cooler chandeliers we’ve ever seen. Created entirely by hand by the line’s duo of designers, Pamela Liou and Zon Chu, the webby chiffon-and-chain fixture took five straight days to finish, “although I think it took a couple years off my life,” Liou joked.

A possible future in home decor notwithstanding, Langoliers’ fall collection involved Liou and Chu’s applying their experience in knitwear to metals and chain.

You can walk into Whole Foods and choose some organic broccoli and be pretty sure that it is what it claims to be. This is not always the case with organic cosmetics and skincare. The products are largely unregulated and there’s not a strict certification system.

It’s often difficult to figure out what’s actually in your products if you’re trying to stay green. Enter Caron Proschan and Emily Graham, two Harvard business school grads who share a love of beauty products and a frustration about the lack of transparency in the industry.

They launched TruthArtBeauty.com in February and it’s one of the more unique beauty sites I’ve seen. It combines all-natural ingredients with customization. They offer you a list of ingredients, along with an explanation of the benefits of each particular additive. Through a step-by-step process, you choose the oils, extracts, and powders, and then they mix it and ship it to you. No preservatives are used and nothing is synthetic, so your item will be stamped with a “made on” date and an expiration date.

In honor of bridal fashion week, designer Lela Rose has been kind enough to answer your wedding day style questions.

Dear Lela,

I’m on a budget and I’m planning to have a DIY wedding, however I want to have a wedding dress that doesn’t go over $500! I also am seeking an off-white short (knee-length or above-the-knee) dress since I’m petite (5’3″). What do you suggest?
