Drugstore Beauty: Fresh From the UK, Meet Organic Surge

Continuing our series highlighting exceptional drugstore beauty brands, we would like to present Organic Surge. Never heard of it? You soon will. Organic and “natural” brands that look good, smell good, work well, and are cheap are still a bit of a rarity. Enter Organic Surge, a brand that was born in the UK in 2004. It just launched in the US in 2010, and is currently available at CVS.com and drugstore.com. If all goes well, you should see the brand in brick-and-mortar stores soon. So first, let’s explore the “organic” in the name.

The essential oils used in the products are certified organic. The other ingredients are mostly “naturally-derived”--the ingredient lists are prominently displayed on products and tell you what’s natural.

Everyone knows that packaging is the first thing to grab your eye, and these products are fun and colorful. Organic Surge looks like a slick brand, which is still rare for inexpensive organic beauty products (if you doubt us, take a wander through Whole Foods’ beauty department).

Organic Surge offers a range of products, including hair care, skin care, and bath and body. Prices range from $5.99 to $12.99.

The shampoos don’t contain sulfates, yet still lather nicely and they also smell great. The shower gels and lotions are moisturizing and don’t have that fake flowery smell that so many drugstore beauty brands have. All products are paraben-free.

The standouts of the collection are the Blissful Daily Moisturizer and Overnight Sensation Cream. Both contain ingredients like green tea, grape seed oil, and vitamin E, all of which are found in much more expensive brands.

The icing on the cake? The company donates a portion of the proceeds to charities. Looking good and feeling good--the perfect combination.
