My Favorite Beauty Products: Ning Chao from Beautylish

This past January Ning Chao made the jump from magazines to the web, where she is the beauty director at Beautylish. (Welcome to the jungle, Ning!) In the ten years prior to that she's covered beauty for Marie Claire, InStyle, Elle, Vogue, and Glamour. Now she’s putting her expertise to work at Beautylish, a slick site devoted to all things beauty: there are product reviews, makeup tutorials, message boards, and a stellar news section (they scored an exclusive interview with Blake Lively’s hair colorist---it took ten hours to make her a redhead.) Ning shared her current favorite beauty obsessions: Shiseido Dual-Balancing Foundation in O40: Makeup artist Dick Page used this on me when he gave me a makeover backstage at a Narciso Rodriguez show during fashion week. When he put on this foundation, my skin looked flawless. I layer this on top of my Shiseido SPF55 Sunscreen for Face (which tends to turn my complexion a bit ghostly) and I love how it stays put. It's even sweatproof--the sweat literally beads off around my nose, so my foundation stays perfect!

Kanebo 38 C Lengthening and Separating Mascara: Hands-down my favorite mascara in the world. It’s expensive, but it’s the only mascara I’ve ever tried that doesn’t smudge on my oily lids. And I can really build it up until it looks like I’m wearing false lashes.

Johnson's Baby Shampoo: I use this to remove my Kanebo mascara. An opthamologist suggested baby shampoo to cleanse dust and pollen out of the lashes (to prevent allergies) and I found baby shampoo is also a great eye makeup remover that never stings. [Ed.note: Um, how brilliant is this?]

Milani Nail Lacquer in Parfait: My favorite spring manicure shade—this purply-pink makes me happy when I see it.

Perricone Acyl-Glutathione Face Cream: Now that I live in Los Angeles, I feel like I need extra sun protection. This lightweight cream is packed with antioxidants (to give my sunscreen a boost) and makes my face super soft. I use it morning and night. It’s replaced the Perricone Cold Plasma cream I loved but suspected had a little bit of a fishy smell (especially since my cats wanted to sniff my face after I put it on).

Dolce & Gabbana The Lipgloss in Secret: I usually wear pink and plum lipsticks, but I’m obsessed with this hot tangerine color right now. It’s perfect for spring/summer. I love how this gloss makes my lips look like they have a sheer sheet of orange vinyl on top. So much fun!
