Between the news that Kate Middleton and Prince William just jetted off to their honeymoon and the fancy beach party that was Chanel’s cruise collection, you’re probably ready for summer. But if you have colored or highlighted hair, you’ll want to protect your investment while you’re out in the elements.

Chlorine, sun, and salt water can all wreak havoc on a dye job, so we looked for advice from our favorite hair expert, stylist Chris Lospalluto from the Sally Hershberger salon here in NYC.

“Watching this show makes me think I could use a few more years in school,” said Reed Krakoff at the Parsons 2011 BFA fashion show. Krakoff, a Parsons alum and the executive creative director of Coach as well as his eponymous line, addressed the crowd of students, parents, press and faculty halfway through the show, saluting his teachers and spotlighting Parsons as the cradle of talent for the fashion industry. Krakoff’s comments were echoed in a video featuring some of the school’s other prominent alumni, including Prabal Gurung, Donna Karan, and Anna Sui.

It’s only May but I think I already have a contender for “Best Beauty Launch of the Year.” Strong words, but I’m standing behind them.

Living Proof, the brainy hair care company run by MIT scientists, changed the hair care industry with their innovative products. Their newest launch, Straight, just upped the ante even further.

Straight hair mania is still going strong, and Straight is Living Proof’s contribution to the market. They already have the amazing No Frizz line (disclaimer: I’m a user of the No Frizz Straight Making Styling Cream), but this new product is unique. It’s an alternative to semi-permament straightening like a Brazilian and heavy traditional products that contain silicones and oils.

Karl Lagerfeld presented his 73-look resort collection for Chanel yesterday in Cannes. All his starlet muses were there including Blake Lively, who was eagerly snapping photos of the show with her iPhone (just like us!) and gushed to WWD, “My gosh, I think I’m going to move here!” Lagerfeld’s Magnum ice cream girl Rachel Bilson, Clemence Poesy, and Alexa Chung were also among the 200 attendees.

The runway was packed with top models–including vets like Stella Tennant and Kristen McMenamy, who walked the runway in a high-cut bathing suit (and gave every girl motivation to look that good at 42).

Dear loyal commenters,

We’ve decided to switch commenting systems from Disqus to Facebook. We’re doing this because we want to provide you with the best tool out there, and we think Facebook is it. (For now.) Starting tomorrow, you’ll comment on Fashionista through your Facebook account. Lots of other sites, including Tech Crunch, have been using Facebook’s system for a few months.

We can’t really explain how to use the Facebook comments because there really isn’t anything to explain. It looks like a regular commenting system, except that you have to log into your Facebook account to use it. We hope that it’ll make it easier for you to have conversations about Fashionista stories with more of your friends, not just those who spend tons of time trolling the site.

We heart you guys and want you to keep commenting, so if there is anything annoying/difficult about the new system, feel free to email me on lauren@fashionista.com. Or you can voice your concerns in…the comments.
