PARIS–“Sportswear is the modern uniform, and we are trying to create sportswear with the feeling of traditional craftsmanship. Valentino has a heritage of couture, but we must make that part of the new world,” said Pier Paolo Piccioli at the quiet lunchtime presentation of the Valentino men’s collection, which took place in the brand’s the sumptuous Place Vendôme office. Rather than a fashion show, designers Maria Grazia Chuiri and Piccioli personally narrated how specific pieces were made and spoke of evolving Valentino menswear into a modern, relaxed, luxurious collection.

The collection was mainly individual garments of graphic and linear jackets, boxy military outerwear and slim trousers and denim in dark olive green, camel, charcoal and white. Each piece can be layered over one another in any casual or dressed up manner.

We are living in an era of economic oxymorons. Crowds line up for gourmet food trucks, CEOs fly coach, and the vain receive Botox on the beach. Thus, timing was perfect when Gap relaunched their 1969 denim line two years ago. The 1969 brand offers consumers a premium fit and cut but at reasonable Gap price points. The average pair of 1969 jeans is $70, a competitive price compared to the $200 average cost of designer denim these days.

We visited the 1969 design studio in downtown Los Angeles yesterday for a preview of their Fall 2011 line. Though Gap’s creative team is based out of New York and their merchandising headquarters is in San Francisco, the 1969 team set up shop in downtown Los Angeles, “the heart of the denim industry” according to Rosella Giuliani. Giuliani and her team of eighteen employees work in an open loft space just steps from the Los Angeles Fashion District. But the studio’s close proximity to the country’s best denim factories, wash houses and laundries is not the only reason 1969 chose Los Angeles as its home. Southern California’s good vibrations juxtapose East Coast sophistication in a good way, and having bicoastal design teams for 1969 denim as well as Gap gives the company a dynamic advantage.

Kate Moss is getting married tomorrow, and while the internet is abuzz with predictions about her dress, we’ve decided to focus on the best Kate Moss bridal moments of the past.

Throughout her modeling career, arguably one of the longest in the biz (after Carmen dell’Orifice), Moss has played the bride time after time for clients like Vogue UK, Agent Provocateur, and Burberry. She also just happens to look great in white.

We’d be pleased if she chooses any of these options to wear on her big day, though the Agent Provocateur ones may be a bit skimpy for the reception…

You’ve undoubtedly heard by now that Prince Harry has a hot new girlfriend, underwear and swimsuit model, Florence Brudenell-Bruce. She comes from a posh family and is actually Harry’s eighth cousin. (I think that probably counts as not really related.)

Well, it turns out that in addition to showing off her assets in lingerie and swimwear, she also has a nice head of hair. As such, she’s the face of Remington and appears in their ads and on packaging for various hair gadgets, including the double-barreled Wrap to Waves curling iron.

“Il n’y a pas de mode, si elle ne descend pas dans la rue!”

–So it says on Freja’s forehead in another image from Chanel’s fall 2011 campaign styled by Carine Roitfeld and photographed by the Kaiser himself. In English: “There is no fashion if she doesn’t take it to the street!” But would she go out in the street with that written on her forehead?

Click through to see the image and decide for yourself.

This morning, our sister site Dealbreaker ran an image of a really rich person’s ATM withdrawal receipt, revealing that the dude had over $99 million dollars in his savings account.

Being a compulsive shopper, the first thing that came to mind was: “Man, think of all the Chanel ballet flats I could buy with $99 million. And Birkins and Kellys and Chanel 2.55s and the entire Proenza Schouler fall collection plus a few choice Celine pieces…. Oh and all of Christopher Kane Spring 2011. (Obviously I would have it special ordered since it’s almost all sold out.)”

Leah says she would just “swim in cashmere and play in the dirt in Isabel Marant…I don’t know? Maybe I’d have a Birkin for each day of the week?” Dhani says, “Maybe a PS1.”

Maybe seven PS1s, Dhani! Anyway, it’s fun to dream. What would you buy if $99 million landed in your bank account?

We’ve just finished with a marathon resort season, so now it’s time to talk about fall…makeup collections, that is. Yes, it’s not even the Fourth of July yet, but the fall makeup is trickling out slowly but surely.

Hourglass, a high-end favorite of Angelina Jolie’s, presented its new fall offerings with celeb makeup artist Gina Brooke, who has painted the pouts of Madonna, Anne Hathaway, and Naomi Campbell (bet Gina has some stories to tell)!

It’s no secret that high-tech lash products are all the rage now, and Hourglass has a pretty stellar product to add to the mix. Called Film Noir Lash Lacquer, it’s billed as an “inky black top coat” for lashes. The product comes in a tube like mascara, but it’s applied with a small soft brush, sort of like what you see in some lip glosses. The lacquer is meant to be painted on your lashes over mascara.

This is what Kate Middleton looks like after an international flight. The Duchess of Cambridge started off the first day of her North American tour by showing support for Canada in a Smythe jacket, but decided to make an in-flight outfit change into a form-fitting navy lace number from Erdem’s resort collection (again showing Canada some love as Erdem is Canadian though based in London).

This must have been one of those “private agreements” she arranged with designers in advance of this press tour. Erdem’s resort collection was shown May 31, which may have allowed enough time for Erdem’s team to produce the dress especially for Middleton, or she may have been shown the collection in advance. Back when we were all trying to guess who was designing Middleton’s wedding dress, Erdem’s name was thrown into the mix. We asked him about it in March and he responded, “I mean, any mention like that is just a huge compliment. It’s so flattering! I will say that Kate is very beautiful….”

This is one of our favorite Kate Middleton looks yet.

For the second time, designer Araks Yeramyan asked a bunch of industry creatives to collaborate on her look book.

Each person selected an outfit from the line, styling and photographing it as they saw fit. Guest stars for Fall 2011 include model Coco Young, director Gia Coppola, designer Richard Chai and blogger Susie Bubble, amongst seven others. Despite the mishmash of personalities, the result is cohesive: the book conveys an off-the-cuff, dreamy feel.
