Acne Resort 2012: New York, New York

Acne creative director Jonny Johansson is unabashed about his love for New York City. "My partner is from here, my child was baptized here...the dream is to be in New York," the designer told us at his first-ever US presentation, which took place last week at a warehouse near the Westside Highway. But will he, mascot of Stockholm, move here himself? "No, but my business partner is moving here. We want to show you guys what we can do."

Why the eye on NYC? Well, while our closets might be chockfull of easy Acne dresses and blouses, Johansson believes that the label is generally known Stateside for little more than its jeans. That means a revved up focus on US expansion, from new stores to new wholesale accounts, as well as the debut of a resort collection that might be Johansson's most sophisticated work to date. "We're playing more with layering, proportions," he said. So you'll find everything from a bright wintergreen brocade dress to an oversize floral anorak. The verdict? Still wearable, still lovable, still cool.
