What kind of art do you create? Paintings.
How would you describe your style? I wear what’s comfortable and try not to be too frumpy about it.

The fashion crowd got transported outside of New York for a sec at yesterday evening’s Stella McCartney Spring 2012 “presentation.” I put the word “presentation” in quotes because it was really a party, held in the idyllic Garden of St. Luke in the Fields in the West Village. Once I got past the paparazzi (seriously) and walked down the little cobblestone path into the charming walled park, it felt like I had left the city and entered the secret garden. On my way to the party, I found a couple of guys playing music (they are probably some really hip band I don’t know about), followed by a small clearing with a selection beautiful accessories arranged on shabby wooden benches so casually that I am actually surprised nothing got stolen (those shoes were beyond amazing and I’m pretty sure no one was looking after them).

Celine to Reissue the Classics: The brand is taking six of Phoebe Philo’s best ensembles and re-releasing them in new color palettes: aqua cuffs on a button-down and a cobalt blue tuxedo pop out and scream “Buy me! I’m available in July at Bergdorfs, Jeffrey New York, Barneys and Kirna Zabete!” {The Moment}
James Franco, Photographer? Franco has been looking to break into new forms of art/self expression and is now adding photographer to his ever-expanding repertoire. In a collaboration with Joe Zee, Franco shot Agyness Deyn for a spread in Elle. If it’s anything like those strange videos the two filmed last year, it should be quite interesting. {WWD}

Erin Fetherston is a girl’s girl through and through, and for the resort/holiday collection she delivered exactly what the most feminine could desire. In the constant cycle of collections it’s easy to overlook the purpose of a line, namely, to clothe the body. When searching for a New Year’s dress or a light frock for a post-holiday vacation, it’s likely that the search will lean more towards fun and functional than the conceptual artistry of the larger main collections.
With Fetherston’s diffusion line, Erin by Erin Fetherston, which debuted for fall 2011, she sought to give girls just that. “It wasn’t so much a conceptual line, like the major spring and fall collections. I wanted to experiment with different fun fabrics but make something that could transition from holiday weather to spring,” she said. Centering around staple party dresses at more affordable prices (no item exceeds $695, and the average price is about $375), the line is a perfect mix of transitional yet seasonal pieces and avoids the wear-it-once demon that may set you back more than a one-night dress should.

Jimmy Choo, which is celebrating its fifteenth anniversary this year, just announced that they are releasing Icons, a capsule collection of 15 shoe styles yanked from the company’s archives. Some will be re-released in their original glory, but some will be updated a bit.
The shoes include the Feather, which Carrie Bradshaw lost on the Staten Island Ferry in season three of Sex and the City (effectively making Jimmy Choo a household name) and the Macy (a classic neutral party sandal). They’ll be available only at Jimmy Choo shops, and will cost $850 to $3,785.
If you’re feeling guilty about spending that much money, don’t.

Rebecca Minkoff‘s resort girl doesn’t look like she’s going anywhere super fancy and inaccessible like Capri or the French Riviera but she’s having fun (she might even have to, gasp, work a little during the resort months, hence the sensible and mixable separates). Harder edged pieces like cropped leather and suede jackets were paired with delicate lace shorts. Lace was woven throughout the collection, in black and white separates, girly shift dresses, and boldly dyed aqua for a cropped top and skirt ensemble. The aqua pops pair nicely with bursts of orange and a pretty marbled print stood out on tops and dresses.

Jessica Simpson is nothing if not a contradiction. Jessica, who started her foray into fame as a singer, became a household name when she was featured on reality show Newlyweds with Nick Lachey; their union famously ended in divorce. While her music career never quite found its footing again, she quietly spawned a fashion empire–despite frequent skewerings in the media for questionable fashion choices (mom jeans!).
Reality TV seems to be her niche now, having just wrapped up Jessica Simpson’s the Price of Beauty, a direct reaction to the mom jean backlash. Then she showed up as a guest judge on the season finale of Project Runway, which proved to be a harbinger of things to come–Jessica Simpson wants to be taken seriously in fashion. Does her billion dollar clothing and accessories empire give her fashion cred finally?

There’s quite a story behind 21-year-old transgender model Valentijn de Hingh. Discovered as an eight-year-old boy by Dutch filmmaker Hetty Niesch, de Hingh was filmed from then until seventeen in what was originally part of a small piece on transgender youth but which became a longer (nine year!) documentary when the director decided to focus solely on her growth and development. The film debuted on Dutch television in 2007. De Hingh, who had gender reassignment surgery just before the release, was “very happy” with its success and how well it portrayed the trials and decisions that transgender youth face.
One day, her angular features and willowy frame earned the attention of a modeling scout while she was shopping in Amsterdam and she soon made her runway debut in the Spring 2008 shows, walking for Maison Martin Margiela and Comme des Garçons. However, when she shot up from her then-height of 5’9″ to 6’1″, agencies deemed her too tall for runway and the bookings stopped. She instead enrolled in the University of Amsterdam to study literature science, hoping to pursue a career in fashion journalism.
Now though, she may have another chance at her original path.
