Nothing says summer like a barbecue block party. And despite the uncharacteristic gloom on Saturday evening, Billy Reid‘s 9th annual Big Apple Bar-B-Q Block Party held at his flagship NY store on Bond St. was in full swing, packed with dapper dudes, stylish ladies, and of course, loads of free booze and delicious BBQ snacks.

The thing we love about Billy Reid‘s bashes is how decidedly un-fashion they are: Burly men slurp up queso unabashedly, women are sporting wingtips instead of stilettos, and there wasn’t a single champagne flute or tuna tartar platter in sight. Most notably, though, is the general feeling of friendliness that Billy Reid, the man, exudes, and which can’t help but permeate the entire party, free margaritas or not (though, of course, the margaritas, basil-lemonade, and delicious slow roasted pulled pork tacos, courtesy of Jim ‘N Nick’s, didn’t hurt!).

So imagine this: you’ve been sunbathing topless all day in the south of France, and–eek!–you get a sunburn. What to do? Well, you could hide topless in your room with aloe vera gel smeared all over your chest or…just throw on Simone Perele’s new line of aloe-infused bras and undies.

Tribune Standard is a promising new line from designer Tawfik Mounayer. In this case, we don’t use the word promising lightly. Resort is only the designer’s second collection under his own label and the quality, attention to detail, and clear vision shown is at a level way beyond that of someone so new to the game. This is because Tawfik is somewhat of a veteran, having worked for Gap, Ann Taylor, Isaac Mizrahi for Target and, most recently, served as vice president of design at Liz Claiborne. Tawfik has successfully taken everything he’s learned at these mega-brands and channeled it into a focused contemporary label that’s getting lots of positive attention.

“Who actually wants a physical lookbook these days?” Chris Benz asks as he hands me a rubber band with a USB chip attached at the end. Not I, especially not when I’m looking at these candy clothes close-up, in all their splendor, at the designer’s studio on 37th Street. “We were inspired by Bermuda–or rather, the idea of Bermuda,” Benz tells me. Indeed, there are bermuda shorts, nubbly twills, even a few chambray pieces, all made for the lady on holiday who doesn’t take dressing up–or herself–too seriously. It’s all about having fun, from the painterly leopard print to the Alejandro Ingelmo x Chris Benz sneakers in pretty patterns to the label’s bright collaboration with jewelry brand The Woods. (There are even a couple of swimsuits–a first for the designer.) But what I loved most about Benz’s take on Resort 2012 was his ability to let go. Despite New York’s current penchant for acid green, the King of Color has moved on, incorporating even fresher-looking mustard, tangerine, and periwinkle.

Check Out This Striped, Color-tastic Editorial: Models lounging around a playground in candy-colored zig-zags, florals, swirls and colorblocks is exactly what we needed to remind us that it’s summer, now that the sun has disappeared. The crazy patterned socks are particularly adorable. {Contributing Editor}

Alex Wang’s Accessories to Debut With eBay Exclusive: Everyone wants them, everyone will kill to have them, so what better way to democratically level the playing field than eBay? On Friday, June 17, you can hash it out on the web for four exclusive styles before the complete official release in July. { Fashionologie}

W’s New Mission To Be “Fashion’s After Party”: Stefano Tonchi has helmed the mag for a year now with less success than hoped for. So, a new ad campaign featuring high-heeled masked models (presumably at some glamorous party the likes of which you are not invited to), will be splashed about the web and on NYC taxis in an attempt to garner excitement about the poor performing publication. {WWD}

Acne creative director Jonny Johansson is unabashed about his love for New York City. “My partner is from here, my child was baptized here…the dream is to be in New York,” the designer told us at his first-ever US presentation, which took place last week at a warehouse near the Westside Highway.

But will he, mascot of Stockholm, move here himself? “No, but my business partner is moving here. We want to show you guys what we can do.”

Swarovski’s been sponsoring the CFDAs for over a decade, and the roster of up-and-coming designers who have won the crystal brand’s trio of awards is quite impressive. (Everyone from Zac Posen to Alexander Wang has accepted a Swarovski.) This little diddy is a montage of acceptance speeches over the years, and features everyone from Kate Spade and Rick Owens to Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. Totally worth the two minutes.

Our intrepid beauty intern, Sara, is a die-hard DIY beauty junkie and found this amazing manicure on a Tumblr (it’s been tough to trace, but we believe it originated here.).

Tie-dyed nails, otherwise known as water marbling, have been around for the last few years, but it’s notoriously difficult to get the bright results seen here (on many pictures we’ve seen, the color looks washed out or not as crisp.) Want to try your luck? We sat through countless YouTube tutorials to piece together the best method. Here’s how to do it:
