It looks like Emma Watson has been making good use of her time since dropping out of Brown this past March. Since then, she’s finished up her last installment of the Harry Potter franchise, come out with collections for People Tree and Alberta Feretti, starred in a Lancome campaign, and will be American Vogue‘s next cover girl, a source inside Conde Nast has confirmed.

It’s the first American Vogue cover for the British actress, who covered Vogue UK last December, and we doubt it will be the last. Twenty-one year old Emma’s come a long way from The Sorcerer’s Stone and developed into a talented, classy, not to mention stylish, young lady. A Vogue cover was definitely in order. And with so much going on in her life, it should be an interesting story.

When I was a kid, I had a book of old Hawaiian surfing stories with a 50’s-postcard style cover showing a bronzed surfer girl riding a wooden board, the flower in her flowing black hair matching her bright bikini. Being from a small beach town and having caught a few waves myself, I was totally obsessed with that image; I wanted to be perpetually tan and frolic through palm trees and make dresses out of hibiscus blossoms.

Obviously, things turned out a bit differently, and I’m left to sip coconut water in a park. But just as the heat descended upon the city and I began to lament the lack of fresh ocean air, Suno delivered a much needed dose of that Polynesian brilliance for resort 2012. Their prints are always fantastic and this resort collection didn’t disappoint; it pays homage to those same postcard-esque fronds, fruit and florals in a splashy ensemble that avoids the garish, bad-tourist-shirt vibe one often associates with tropical prints.

Vogue Italia editor Franca Sozzani seems to have a lot of opinions about, well, everything, but she’s had a lot to say on the subject of bloggers lately, some of which has been a tad contradictory.

She dug herself into a little bit of a hole in January when she ranted on her own, um, blog on Vogue Italia’s site, about how bloggers were an “epidemic” who “don’t hold a real importance in the business.”

She was quick to dig herself out of said hole when influential blogger Liberty London Girl gave her the chance in a recent–and very interesting–interview at an event at Harvey Nichols. It was part of “Vogue Experiences,” a series of events with panels and discussions where young creatives show up to get advice and network. Despite the aforementioned rant, Franca seemed to have no idea why people think she dislikes bloggers:

While bloggers now regularly receive compensation for promotional work–think Rumi Neely‘s work with Forever 21 and Ralph Lauren–it’s typically “viral” campaigns. But that’s all changing, what with Susie Lau’s appearance in a Gap campaign last Christmas, and now, the announcement that fashion editor/blogger Sasha Wilkins of Liberty London Girl is the new face of Hunter, the company famous for its wellington boots.

Marc Jacobs is in the news daily lately, and we love it, especially when it’s good news. Lola, Jacobs’ successful fragrance which launched in 2009, is getting a sweeter little sister called Oh, Lola. The name is a play on the expression “oh la la,” and Jacobs described it as a “Lolita”–sweeter and more sensual.

Trendspotting: Marc Jacobs Loves His PJs

Friday, Jun 10, 2011 / 12:35 PM

Marc Jacobs showed his resort collections for Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, and Marc by Marc Jacobs and picked up his CFDA lifetime achievement award this past week.

While Jacobs is obviously the creative force behind all three labels–he can’t do it all. He delegates the work to his dedicated design teams at each house. Julie De Libran collaborated with Sofia Coppola at Louis Vuitton, Junhee Kim and her amazing team worked hard at Marc by Marc (styled by contributor Sally Lyndley), and Marc himself and the Marc Jacobs team labored at Marc Jacobs proper. Yet these three different design teams all showed matching print pajama looks in the same season.

Rumor has it Tory Burch is planning to stage a full-on runway show for the first time during NYFW this September. Wall Street Journal style columnist Christina Binkley tweeted last night, from a Tommy Hilfiger party in Los Angeles: “Heard from impeccable source: Tory Burch will hold her first runway show during NYFW in Sept. Plan is for Tuesday morning.”

Considering the way Tory’s brand has grown over the years and the detailed nature of this rumor, right down to the day, we’re inclined to believe it. It’s a big step for Tory Burch and an indication that her brand has reached the next level of both commercial success and respect from the industry.

We hyperventilated just a little bit when we saw the lead beauty story in WWD this morning. Tom Ford, arbiter of all things crave-worthy, is launching a full color cosmetics collection, available this September. It is a whopping 132-piece collection and also includes skin care.

Ford told WWD that he’d wanted to do a color collection since his days at Gucci, but that people were not “convinced that I had a voice in color until the lipsticks started selling out again and again.” (That would be his 12-piece Private Blend Lip Color Collection, now legendary.)

Macy’s designer collaboration line Impulse continues to give Target’s Go International line a run for its money. Giambattista Valli is the latest designer to pair up with the mass retailer, according to a report in WWD. Even though Macy’s won’t confirm WWD’s report (they “do not comment on speculation”), Fashionista hears from a reliable source that Valli is up next.

Valli’s collection for Macy’s is said to launch in November, following Karl Lagerfeld’s, which hits stores in September. Valli is the fourth designer to partner with Macy’s for their Impulse line–Kinder Aggugini was first up in January, followed by Matthew Williamson‘s which launched in April.

L’Wren Scott is all about the details: the placement of a hemline, the click of a handbag. The stylist-turned-designer doesn’t do anything haphazardly, so it was no surprise that she decided to launch her handbag line by introducing it to a group of 20 or so bloggers on Wednesday morning. (Barneys, who has the exclusive on the bags this season, hosted the breakfast.) Because as everyone from Proenza Schouler to Reed Krakoff knows, it’s really The Bag Snob–the be-all-end-all of accessories blogs–who makes or breaks your collection.

Along with the opportunity to get to know the Lula–Scott‘s introductory piece, available in three practical sizes and a variety of colors and skins–we were lucky enough to get to know Scott, who not only did a Q&A with O creative director Adam Glassman, but also answered questions from the audience. Given that her runway show is as exclusive as Tom Ford‘s–seriously, like, less than a hundred people are invited–this was a real treat. Especially since she’s such a charismatic and sincere person. The big takeaways:
