On Wednesday night, Tiffany brought its signature blue to the Crosby Street Hotel to celebrate the launch of the jewelry brand’s new website–WhatMakesLoveTrue.com–its corresponding iPhone app, and a screening of a short film by Edward Burns made especially for the site. As fans of romance and fine jewelry, we popped by to see how the name synonymous with both interpreted “true love.”

There were turquoise platters filled heart-shaped blinis and mini cupcakes, and a photo booth where attendees could snap themselves against a blue heart background (presumably with a significant other) and either print the mementos or upload them to the web. It was pretty adorable, especially seeing couples cuddle up to take one. A particularly attentive touch was the choice of music. The DJs–DJ MOS and DJ Kiss–are newlyweds, having tied the knot in January after six years of dating. MOS said he thought the site was “an amazing, great idea. So helpful, especially for guys. We wanna know like, ‘how do I do this, am I doing it the right way?’”

So what exactly does the site do?

Marc Jacobs’ is still one of the most highly anticipated shows of New York Fashion Week. But a New York Times profile of the impending CFDA Lifetime Achievement award recipient painted a bit less rosy picture of the designer’s place in the fashion food chain.

First of all, this award is a bit of a double-edged sword. Yes, the industry is acknowledging all your contributions, but it’s also sort of telling you that you’re old and finished. And Marc gets this. He told the NYT’s Ruth La Ferla: “Lifetime Achievement. That seems very final, like I’m done. But I’m not done.”

The NYT then goes on to make a case that, yes, it seems like Marc Jacobs may be done. Or at least heading in that direction. The points of contention:

“Today nobody’s really found the real story… I don’t have too much consideration for the poor people who try to write that book…it’s interesting that people in fact are lazy. If they worked hard they would find interesting things. Nobody finds it! So I’m in a position to say ‘Fuck you, you’re all lazy pigs.’ And I certainly won’t help them!”

Annie Leibovitz Shoots Nike Women’s Ad: The Nike Make Yourself campaign started last year as a girl power type promotion for women’s athleticism and sportswear; this year, they tapped Leibovitz’s recognizable epic photography for the ads, which star several female athletes including Maria Shirapova, dancer Sofia Boutella, and surfer Laura Enever. {WWD}

Jill Abramson Named New York Times Executive Editor: Abramson has been managing editor since 2003 and is now, with today’s replacement of Bill Keller, the first ever female executive editor of the newspaper. {NYTimes}

FHM Apologizes to Andrej Pejic: The men’s mag named the gender bending model the 98th Sexiest Woman… but also called him ‘thing’ in a truly insensitive bit of copy. The piece has since been taken down and an apology was issued, although it’s honestly a little pathetic given the offense. {Styleite}

With his brown, curly hair made golden by the sun, Yves Saint Laurent designer Stefano Pilati looked as though he had just stepped off a yacht at yesterday’s Cruise 2012 show, which took place at the Haunch of Venison gallery in midtown Manhattan.

So did his girls, who were decked out in deck-worthy wares, from peasant blouses striped with ropes to navy blazers adorned with weighty anchors. The color palette was traditional: red, white, and blue with dashes of yellow, and we’d say pretty fresh. Along with the easy hair–a low ponytail at the nape of the neck made special with a slight rockabilly wave in the front–the clothes, from the leather pleated skirt to the tiny floral rompers, appeared comfortable. We’re also fond of Pilati’s frequent use of puffed sleeves–they make any outfit look pretty. And when it comes to the resort collections, that’s a good thing.

Can we please stop making perfume out of things that should not touch people’s skin? Seriously. I don’t want other people’s bodily fluids (even Lady Gaga’s) on my skin, unless it is a completely consensual episode agreed upon in advance. While not QUITE as disgusting as, Surplus, you know, the fragrance made from poop, the thought of perfume made out of urine is not appealing.

“Conceptual artist” Cherry Tree, whose real last name is actually Blansit, started collecting her urine in 2006 after every full moon.

The newly launched XOJane, Jane Pratt’s newest online venture into the lady internet space, promised to bring back a few of Sassy and Jane‘s most beloved features, including Jane‘s “Makeunder.”

They made good on their word, and today put out their first “Makeunder” featuring Tinsley Mortimer of all people. That’s Tinsley pre-makeunder above. Click through to see her after the girls at XOJane got their hands on her. It took only 15 minutes (the Tins said she spends two hours prepping for a red carpet event) and only five beauty products were used (she uses 15 before she faces the flashbulbs)–and after you see how she looks you’re gonna want every beauty product they used on her (at least I did).
