The Bernhard Willhelm men’s show in Paris this past week was all kinds of amazing. There was a lot going on–crazy colors, nakedness, strange painted on tan lines, and funny tattoos and words written on muscled chests and thighs and forearms.

Kim Kardashian to Wed in Custom Vera Wang and Louboutin: The bride to be was spotted, with a camera crew, meeting with Vera Wang yesterday at her Madison Avenue boutique. Apparently, Kim was also overheard at the west village Christian Louboutin store saying that Christian was, “custom-making her shoes for the wedding, but she wanted to try some on for size.” Does she not already own a pair? {Page Six}

Plus-Size Model Velvet D’Amour Speaks Out About the Industry and Italian Vogue: The model/actress discusses the trend of putting plus-size models in spreads that reference the rubenesque Renaissance nudes, like the recent ItalianVogue, saying that though it’s a step, real progress will only be made when larger models are shown in innovative, clothed fashion editorials, not just in nudes displaying their bodies. {Frockwriter}

Adam Lippes For HSN: The designer, who just did a collaboration with Mango, will create a lower-priced (between $55 and $400) capsule collection called Love Adam for the Home Shopping Network that will have old favorites such as fur-accented coats, tailored suits and party dresses in less expensive fabrics. At this rate, HSN is catching up to Target on the collaboration front. {Elle}

There’s definitely a greater recognition in beauty these days that not all women are of European descent with blue eyes. Indeed, a lot of Americans don’t fit this ethnic profile at all. Latina and African-American women make up about 40% of the population that’s buying cosmetics in the 18-44 demographic in the US. So there’s obviously a need for products that suit a variety of skin tones.

Enter Black|Up, the questionably named yet undeniably luxurious cosmetics line aimed at women of color. Black|Up, a Paris-based brand that’s been around for 10 years, is now available in the US. I met with celeb makeup artist Mylah Morales (she’s worked with Rihanna) and Lionel Durand, the French founder of the brand, to get the scoop.

My first question was, “What’s with the name?”

In honor of the new Smurfs movie, out July 29, Harper’s Bazaar shot the only lady Smurf, Smurfette, for a fashion spread in the mag’s August issue which hits newsstands July 12. It’s been a busy week for the fashion business….

This morning, WWD suggested that serial investor Tommy Hilfiger might be spending some cash on the fashion brand Michael Kors, which is trying to raise around $500 million for a global expansion plan (including an IPO). In the past, Hilfiger has invested in the likes of Karl Lagerfeld and is currently a consultant for the English heritage brand Belstaff. With Hilfiger’s namesake brand now owned by conglomerate PvH, he obviously has an extra bit of time on his hands–or at least space is in his brain–for new projects….

One of the youngest members of the Ronson/Dexter-Jones family, Annabelle also has that effortlessly cool quality that every one of them seems to have been born with. She has great style and an unconventionally adorable look. Her half sister Charlotte Ronson, whose show she walks in every season, has called Annabelle her muse. Aside from that, she’s mostly known for being in Purple Diary a lot and dating French graffiti artist and nightclub owner André Saraiva.

But now, she tells WWD in an article about Saraiva, Annabelle is working on something of her own–a clothing line.

A boy model holding hands with a normal aged model (who is probably closer in age to the boy model than you think) closed the Smalto menswear show in Paris this week. Exciting gig for a young model, right? Wrong. This boy was NOT feeling it.

Based on photos of the finale it appears he cried the length of the runway. Which is kind of admirable because I imagine many models feel like breaking on down the runway sometimes but have to suck it up instead. Not this kid. He was totally miz and didn’t care who saw him. The model whose hand he was made to hold, however, was very profesh and stayed all blue steel the whole time. Watch the whole thing play out frame by frame.

The men’s shows are just wrapping up in Paris. Our amazing contributors Long Nguyen of Flaunt mag and Alice Pfeiffer are there now reviewing the shows. For a more in depth analysis of the collections, read their lovely reviews. For a quick once over of the most extreme-styled looks to come down the runways of Milan and Paris, read this round up.

The men’s shows are always fun to look at because they’re often styled even more outrageously than the women’s shows. This year menswear designers showed us scuba mankinis, frozen yellow Ken-doll hair, hot pants and fringed onesies. These things look good on models on the runway, but heaven help us if mere mortals tried to pull this stuff off on the street. Though, more power to you if you’re brave enough to try it.

Take a look.

PARIS–The moving escalators at the vast subterranean glass ceiling basement at the Le Centorial office complex where Raf Simons held his spring show reminded me of his outdoor show in July 1998 at the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie where the spring 1999 Kinetic Youth collection was shown. Models marched around a mirrored ball while David Bowie’s Space Oddity played in a production of Wagnerian magnitude.

This season was a moment for Mr. Simons to reaffirm his design roots and contributions to modern menswear–principally his pioneering signature pencil cut suits with slim pants, his baggy pull on or pleated pants with square shoulder jacket, and his slim coats.

Men’s fashion week ended with two remarkable performances, which reminded us that a) male models are always a pleasure to watch b) this is basically a modern woman’s show c) couture week is minutes away and we’ve still got to recover from the fashion overdose of these past days.

RYNSHU:
The Japanese designer always puts on a black and white, fearless yet elegant show. This time, he followed the same recipe and offered warrior like clothes: scarves, blazers with sleeves seemingly ripped, silver army boots. But Rynshu had a surprise for us–front man of Black Eyed Peas Will.i.a.m modeled the show, as a sign of sympathy for Japan’s current condition. And there is more–the designer and the singer will be launching a collection together, entitled “WILL I AM x RYNSHU” for the SS2012 season. Unfortunately not made for lovely lady lumps.

To some extent, every fashion week is always a gender studies class: each collection always questions norms and archetypes, and forever reinvents their own personal ideals. Yesterday, three presentations offered their own definition of masculinity, for three very different results.
