It seems like an odd choice, but here it is. Former Spider-Man star Tobey Maguire is the new face of Prada menswear. It’s a little jarring at first, probably because we’ve never really seen or envisioned Maguire in a fashion context, let alone such a sophisticated and dramatic campaign for one of the industry’s most celebrated designers.
The actor, who will star in next year’s Baz Luhrmann-directed adaptation of The Great Gatsby, says of the campaign, “A great supporter of the Arts, Miuccia Prada has inspired a culture of creativity that is woven through every aspect of her company, from her collections, her campaigns, to every design detail in her stores. I have such admiration for her artistry and I’m thrilled to be a part of Prada’s fall campaign.”
David Sims shot the campaign, which Prada calls “an intimate character study,” and the photographs do have a bit of an editorial feel, like they should be accompanied by an in-depth interview with the actor in which he reveals all of his deepest, darkest thoughts. Other than that, we’re into the boxy wool jacket and mock turtlenecks. What do you think?
