Kiehl’s Opens Its First Spa and Launches a New Line of Oil Free Skin Care (Just in Time for the Heat Wave)

Kiehl’s, despite being one of the original “heritage” American beauty brands, manages to stay dynamic and modern, mostly thanks to constant innovation and its ability to create buzz. Kiehl’s is that elusive combo of cool image and great product.

Kiehl’s has a few exciting things happening this month, and celebrated with a party last night. In what is the most conveniently timed launch of all time (thanks to this obnoxious heat wave), the brand’s new Ultra Facial Oil-Free Collection just debuted. It includes four products: cleanser, lotion, toner, and gel cream. The result? Moisture to the skin with 24 hour shine control. The theory is that many oil-free products strip the skin of oils to give you a matte look, but this ultimately can make your skin produce more oil to compensate. This collection will keep skin hydrated but not shiny. The line is free of parabens, dyes, and fragrances and ingredients like fruit extracts and naturally-derived proteins are the stars.

Kiehl’s was excited to show everyone its new Upper East Side location (on 64th and Lexington) which also houses its first-ever spa concept, Spa 1851, which opens today. It has three treatment rooms and offers treatments like specialized facials (including microdermabrasion), peels and eye treatments, and scalp treatments. Basic massages are also on offer, including pre- and post-natal options.

Kiehl’s is also heavily courting men. It already has a successful men’s line, and the new spa features a testosterone-friendly men’s grooming area. The barber chairs were designed by an artist who specializes in leather motorcycle art–motorcycles are a huge part of the brand’s heritage, and play into all of their events and store imagery.

Congrats to Kiehl’s on its new addition, and we hope the concept expands to other markets.
