Bieber May Be Magazine Poison, But He’s Perfume Counter Gold. (And In Other Pop Star News, Taylor Swift Now Has a Fragrance)
While Justin Bieber may not be invited to cover magazines anymore due to poor issue sales, he doesn’t need to worry about his popularity with his fan base quite yet.
The Biebs’ fragrance, Someday, destroyed sales records in its first month and is being called the most successful celebrity fragrance launch in history. Take that J. Lo and Beyonce! WWD reports that Someday brought in $3 million in less than three weeks (compare that to the previous best-selling launch, Beyonce’s Heat, which made $3million in a month.) A spokesperson for Give Back Brands, which produces the scent, told WWD (gleefully) that retailers can’t keep it in stock. (Ed. note: I think it smells pretty good. When I said this to my co-workers they looked at me blankly and said, “You do??”) Only time will tell whether or not the Biebs can maintain this momentum.

L.A.-based clothing line Of Two Minds brought designer Sunjoo Moon to the helm last year, and the results are fantastic. Moon takes SoCal’s hippie roots and infuses them with a louche, urban cool to create dreamy, vintage-inspired pieces the likes of which Florence Welch would swoon over. This fall, the native prints and loose silhouettes went in a Southwestern direction for a very Little-Fashionite-On-The-Prairie vibe.

We love to follow our “How I’m Making It” subjects through their career trajectories, and it’s particularly gratifying when they’re doing well and thriving. One such success story is Meredith Fisher and her Charles Henry line. When we first wrote about her in January, she’d just launched Charles Henry (after a successful run with her first line, WAYF). Barneys’ Amanda Brooks and Simon Doonan On The Row’s New $39,000 Bag and the Return of the Backpack
Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen were on hand at Barneys last night to fete the launch of their new line of luxury handbags for The Row (I’m pretty sure I know which one is which now thanks to our handy guide–Ashley’s in the floor length embroidered number, MK’s in the blazer, both from the Row).
“I think the bags are triple super chic,” said Amanda Brooks, Barneys’ new-ish fashion director (who, as evidenced by our Textbook post today, is pretty chic herself). The line, she said, fills a void within Barneys highly competitive bags and accessories department–a younger more streamlined Celine-esque sub-in for the Birkins they don’t stock. “Obviously we don’t carry Hermes bags in the store so we were trying to find something that appeals to that customer who is willing to spend a lot of money on a bag that’s going to last a long time and has a classic design.”
When Brooks mentions a customer willing to spend “a lot of money on a bag” she means up to $39,000 on a bag. That’s how much the crocodile backpack in the Olsen’s new bag range for the Row will set you back.

Adventures In Copyright: Poor Prada! Jeffery Campbell Strikes Again
By Mickie Meinhardt
Prada’s rainbow sole flatforms just can’t get a break. As the winner of the spring runways, they flew off the shelves and drew the attention of more than one copycat. The latest is frequent offender Jeffrey Campbell, whose version is not really a bargain, ringing in at $130.
Also, the JC version is clunkier and not so sleek looking, so it’s a double fail. As we’ve said before, if such a blatant knock-off is still pricey, why bother? Perhaps you’ll be skipping the waiting list and saving $470 but it’s probably better to just go for the real deal. Plus, it seems unfair to to give Campbell business for knocking off a hardworking designer’s team.
Which would you spring for? The not-so-cheap knockoff or the true Prada (or neither)?

In a recent interview, Glenda Bailey, the EIC of Harper’s Bazaar, was explaining the differences between European and American magazines. She said, “You know, the American sensibility is different. In Europe, sex sells. In America, it’s hair.” This may be true. Blake Lively made headlines for a week when she went red. And whenever a starlet chops a pixie, there’s mass hysteria. Hair is a symbol of sexuality, femininity, and often the first thing you notice about a person. It’s a big deal.
We decided to do a round up of the most interesting hair blogs out there. And trust us, there are many, many hair blogs. Maybe even more hair blogs than sex sites. Maybe.

Fans of affordable British retailer Superdry USA, including Jessica Szohr and Whitney Port, were happy to escape Wednesday night’s heat to celebrate the brand’s newest digs at South Street Seaport. The party marks Superdry’s second NYC address—the first shop hit NoHo in 2009. “This new location is fantastic with international and domestic consumers,” explained Superdry President Michael Martens. “We have 140 stores worldwide so when a European consumer comes here they immediately recognize this store and come in and shop,” he said.
