If you’re completely immersed in fashion (as many of us are) you might not be aware that the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup is going on right now and the U.S. National team just advanced to the finals, following a ridiculous nail-biting victory over Brazil and then a decisive win against France.

Up until now, when a U.S. victory is in site, controversy over the new team uniforms has overshadowed the athleticism on the field. Nike rolled out the new uniforms (or “kits” as their called in the “football” world) in May, which come in black (away games) and white (home) and according to the press release, were “inspired by the beautiful but deadly Black Widow spider.”

But a lot of folks thought the uniforms, which Nike said were designed “specifically for the female athlete, to enhance the range of motion and create a uniquely feminine silhouette” looked more like some incarnation of a sexy nurse outfit.

Lauren Conrad shook up the hair-o-sphere mightily this past week by going and getting the coolest dye job ever. As some of you were quick to point out, it’s a hard look to achieve if you’re not blonde. You’d have to strip your natural color and then re-color, which is not a gentle process. And what happens if you hate it?

As we know from our own coverage of the market, Turkey is a hotbed for new and notable fashion design. Not only does the country have a rich history in textile and clothing production–Mavi denim is based there, for instance–but a ton of luxury brands are looking to Turkey for its high quality manufacturing combined with reasonable pricing.

Axel Burla and Begum Tuna, designers of the three-season-strong label Beatrixe, are well-suited to take advantage of Turkey’s offerings. Not only are they both from the country, but their aim with Beatrixe is to create luxurious clothes at a non-scary price. (Leather shorts, for instance, are $345. Expensive, but not insane.)

We caught up with the two designers over breakfast to learn more about how they’re making it.

If you weren’t already aware: We love Carven. Designer Guillaume Henry‘s transformation of the storied couture house into a very modern, very contemporary take on classic silhouettes is pretty much our favorite brand right now.

A few images of of the pre-spring collection were released a couple of weeks ago, but now we’ve got the complete look book. And clearly, we’re obsessed. Whether it’s the chartreuse schoolgirl jumper or the lemon yellow bow flats, there’s nothing we wouldn’t want to hang in our closet.

“I think the key to success is vision that adjusts on the way, but doesn’t at all falter. It’s about not compromising and following your gut to a certain degree, based on knowledge, instinct, etc. And not listing to the naysayers…. You develop strength through adversity. You have to keep moving towards your goal through huge obstacles. It’s not easy. Especially a business like this where there are so many moving parts. You have to build a good team and know who’s good and not good and you have to keep raising the bar on your life. For me it’s always, ‘I have to get up and do a little better today and go to work to learn.’”

Alexander Wang is continuing on what seems like a mission to turn New York City in Alexander Wang City with unconventional guerrilla-like marketing. On Monday, he launched a new campaign for T by Alexander Wang with a video starring Spankrock and Santigold and a “wildposting campaign” of still images to be posted around New York City. This morning, an image of Raquel Zimmerman from the Alexander Wang fall campaign was released with the news that another film had been produced for the designer’s main line.

It stars Zimmerman and was shot in an abandoned factory in Red Hook, Brooklyn (Great minds think alike?). Wang told WWD, “We’ve rented these trucks, and the video will be projected from the trucks onto the sides of buildings. Some will be roaming, some planted.”

According to Wang’s PR, these screenings will take place tonight, tomorrow night and Friday night “around 9pm” in the following locations:

There are a full 14 kaptivating, non-krappy kolors in the new Nicole by OPI Kardashian Kolor Kollection. (I promise that is the last time I will inappropriately use K words in this post.) All kidding aside, the colors are pretty cute, with names to match. “Hard Kourt Fashionista,” “Follow Me on Glitter,” and “Listen to your Momager!” are some of the choices. You could be forgiven if when people ask you what color you’re wearing, you just say, “Teal.”
