There are tons of new opportunities!

Philip Treacy gave the Sunday Guardian a juicy unfiltered interview, where the famed milliner dished on everything from his muse Isabella Blow, having Lady Gaga as an intern, and the backlash that followed the hat he designed for Princess Beatrice to wear to the royal wedding. The highlights:

Betty Ford died on Friday, and while most obits are focussing on her life as a First Lady/ feminist/founder of the most famous rehab clinic in the world, we think her sense of style deserves a nod, too. Pretty much everyone ignores the fashion of first ladies between Onassis and Obama, and it’s just not right. So we’ve rounded up our favorite Betty Ford looks, and hope you can cull some inspiration.

The Beckham clan finally has a little more girl power. Many congrats to Victoria and David Beckham on their first baby girl, Harper Seven. She was born in L.A. on Sunday morning at 7:55 PST and weighed a healthy 7 lbs 10 oz. Victoria’s publicist tweeted the good news yesterday.

We’re sure you’re wondering about that name. The Beckhams don’t usually go for the most traditional names–their son Brooklyn was famously named after the place he was conceived, but we’re pretty sure that isn’t the case with little Harper (but who knows…). The Daily Mail writes, “A close friend of the couple said: ‘Harper is an old English name something Victoria has always liked. Seven is a very lucky happy number and the baby was born just after 7am, in the seventh month.’” The British paper even speculates the baby was named after Harper’s Bazaar magazine.

As for the “Seven” part, are the Beckhams just big Seinfeld fans?

Proving that he will never go minimal, Tom Ford‘s new fall womenswear ads feature Candice Swanepoel looking unrecognizable and vampiric in a face full of severe makeup. Candice tweeted about the shoot over the weekend: “Sooooo excited! My Tom Ford campaighn (sic) is out!!! #Dreamcometrue.” Read more »

We feel slightly superficial reporting on Kate Middleton‘s last US outfit, since she wore it while visiting impoverished children at the Inner-City Arts Center in LA. But, we’re nothing if not thorough when it comes to Kate’s looks so…she looked fresh and proper in a navy crocheted top and white knife-pleated skirt from UK high street store Whistles. She also wore navy suede pumps. Her hair was in her second favorite hairstyle, the half updo. Read more »

The royal couple’s whirlwind weekend in California continued yesterday as Kate and William hit up a charity polo match (where tickets went for $4,000 and Giada De Laurentiis cooked the lunch.) She wore new fave designer Jenny Packham AGAIN–quite a lovely pale lilac dress with a floral print. Two elements of her outfit that sort of shocked us? We thought for sure she’d be sporting a hat for polo, but she let her wavy hair take center stage. And look at her feet: sandals! Yes, they’re nude, but they have a criss-cross strap and a respectable heel height. We’re calling this progress. See her Alexander McQueen gown after the jump! Read more »

Fellow citizens of the United States: it’s finally happened. The royal couple is here! Kate and William left Canada yesterday afternoon after a quick stop at the ENMAX Conservatory at the Calgary Zoo, Botanical Garden and Prehistoric Park. She wore a scarlet Catherine Walker “Marianne” coat dress, made of lightweight wool with a full skirt. Kate accessorized with the Queen’s diamond maple leaf brooch (also seen on her now infamous “Canada Day” outfit.) And the shoes? You guessed it! Nude LK Bennett platform pumps–the style is called the Sledge2 in case you’re interested in tracking some down. Read more »

Bergdorf Goodman and Lucky magazine have spent the last month searching for this fall’s Faces of 5F, aka ordinary girls who’ll star in the department store’s fall contemporary ad campaign. Yesterday marked the final step–an in-store casting, where 25 finalists were narrowed down to five. The winners will not only appear in the fall campaign, they’ll also be featured in Lucky‘s October issue.

On hand to help judge the competition were Bergdorf’s creative director, Aidan Kemp, and Brandon Holley, Lucky’s editor-in-chief. We had a few moments to speak with Holley about her affinity for the finalists, as well as many of Bergdorf’s most coveted labels.

Since our last roundup of Fall 2011 ads, some of the biggest campaigns have been released. From Chanel’s cats to Balenciaga’s church-going models, these ads are decidedly thematic.

That being said, not all are successful. Most have the guts to get consumers into the stores, but some fall short and enter into parody territory. Click through and see for yourself.
