Giambattista Valli‘s first ever couture collection received mostly rave reviews and, with so many gorgeous red carpet-worthy dresses, was the inspiration for our recent “Who Should Wear What on the Red Carpet” couture wrap-up. If you assumed, like we did, that you’d have to wait until awards season to see these pretty things again, you thought wrong.

Starting July 25, you can buy one (or ten, if you’re so inclined) at one of four Saks Fifth Avenue locations at an “average price” of $4,000 (which, granted, is a lot of money, but it’s actually not that bad for couture). The department store is getting an exclusive “caravan” of the cocktail dresses and evening gowns that just went down the runway and going on the road with them. They will be at the New York store July 25-27. Customers can actually buy the stuff on the 27th. Then, they will be traveling to the following Saks locations:

PARIS–One of the most difficult tasks in fashion is how to evolve an established brand–in this case the venerable house of Valentino and its tremendous couture heritage–into something relevant. In the two and a half years since their first couture outing, designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli’s vocabulary at Valentino has been a back and forth debate regarding how much respect must be paid to the house’s history.

At Wednesday morning’s fall couture show at the Hôtel Salomon de Rothschild, the designers were able to strike this delicate balance. The Valentino craftsmanship and many of the house’s codes–laces, sheer chiffon and ruffles–were all present, but reworked in new and subtle ways. This collection of day and evening clothes that demonstrated the designer’s command of the house’s direction.

Rumors began swirling this morning that John Galliano was in talks with fellow Kate Moss wedding attendee and Topshop CEO Sir Philip Green about doing a line for Topshop, which would be a pretty major collaboration. With that and the success of his wedding dress for Moss, it seemed like things were looking up for the disgraced designer. However, Green swiftly contacted British Vogue, where the rumor was first reported, to nip it in the bud. He says, “I saw John Galliano at Kate’s wedding last Friday. I did not discuss any business with him then, nor have I since.”

We’re not surprised the reports were false, since they seemed pretty unfounded. What is interesting is how quick Green was to deny the rumors, especially since he has not yet said anything about the recent Gwyneth Paltrow for Topshop ones.

Another couture season is behind us, leaving in its wake more Dior rumors, a rare Alaia show, and lots of strange hair accessories.

It was a gorgeous week for beauty, though. If nails were less-than-spectacular–we’re moving towards a more ladylike manicure, perhaps–the eyes were artful and strong. Lips were mostly neutral with a few notable exceptions. And hair ran the gamut from punky to slick to softly romantic.

John Galliano for Topshop?: Say what?? Rumors have been circulating that the disgraced designer may do a line for Topshop. It would be a full 360 degree journey for Galliano, since he worked there as a student. Right now Green denies that any official meetings have happened, but our ears are to the ground on this one. {VogueUK}

Taylor Swift in Cornrows: For those of you who are afraid you’ll never get out of that awkward stage, take a peek at Taylor Swift working some cornrows. We suspect this isn’t a look she’s going to reprise anytime soon. {Stylelist}

Tavi Is Doing Performance Art as a Tribute to Sassy Magazine: On July 27 Tavi will perform a tribute to beloved glossy Sassy at a Brooklyn performance art space. If she were an attendee, however, she wouldn’t be allowed to go–21 and over only. {TheCut}

Are Kim Kardashian’s Bridesmaids Wearing Alexander McQueen?: Kim was spotted dropping off an Alexander McQueen gown at the dry cleaner. Could this possibly be a bridesmaid gown? We wouldn’t doubt it. The vision of Pippa’s ass in that dress will not soon be forgotten. It’s a look that bridesmaids everywhere would be happy to sport. {PopSugar}
