Now here’s a collaboration you don’t hear about everyday: cosmetics for funeral parlors. Think about it, though. Funeral homes must go through a lot of makeup. It’s a wonder someone hasn’t come up with this sooner.

Illamasqua, the Brit makeup brand known for theatrical and decidedly goth looks, is the mastermind behind a collaboration with London-based Leverton & Sons funeral directors. According to Illamasqua’s blog:

We’ve taken you along for the ride while Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, and Prada have competed against each other to nab the most covers for the season, and now that spring/summer is coming to a close, we can finally announce Prada as the cover war winner with a whopping 77 covers! Their weapons of choice? Bananas, fur scarves, and large striped hats.

This victory can be considered just another feather in Prada’s cap during an important year for the brand. The company experienced record sales during 2010, recently went public on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, and held a special showing of their Spring 2011 collection in Beijing this past January. It only seems fitting that the brand–whose popular green and yellow print dress showed up on more covers than any other spring look–would receive the ultimate title in the end.

Gucci and Dolce & Gabbana fought valiantly this season, nabbing second and third place, respectively. By our count Gucci’s ultra-bright looks scored 69 covers, while the pristine white dresses of Dolce & Gabbana showed up on 63. Better luck next season, you two.

Though as one season ends, another begins and we already have our eyes peeled for the fall issues. There are the usual suspects, but is there room for another contender? Which brands do you think will show up to compete in the fall?

Want a quick look at all (and we do mean all) the winning covers? Click through for a few handy collages.

In case you missed it, here is a recap of this week’s Nicola Formichetti vs. fat people vs. W situation: W published a piece in the August music issue about Lady Gaga stylist and Mugler creative director Nicola Formichetti in which he discusses, among other things, his styling career. At one point in the article, Formichetti recalls an instance where he was hired to style a band. He is quoted as saying:

“I was only used to dressing models and skinny kids and I turned up and it was, like, three fat guys. I just left. That was the last time I tried to work with fat people. I think one of them was Ali G’s brother. It was so ghetto.”

Yesterday, after the quote inevitably inspired some negative press on the blogosphere, Nicola took to Facebook to defend himself by posting a picture of a shoot he styled for V‘s size issue with the comment “i know i should just leave it but…i really hate when writers just write whatever they want… ‘i dont work with fat people…’ why would someone say such a thing?!”

So was Nicola misquoted? Here is the statement we just received from W‘s PR rep:

Kate Middleton and Prince William are still in Canada, and yesterday Kate went a little bit casual, sporting a pair of J Brand navy twill jeans (buy them HERE!!!!) and a button down olive blouse. This morning, she kept on the J Brands, but switched to a ruffled top from By Malene Birger, her Smythe blazer, and those now-infamous LK Bennett wedges.

To some fashion labels–like Armani, Dior, Chanel–makeup and fragrance makes up a big chunk of their revenue every year. And it’s a great way for “aspirational” (the beauty industry’s current favorite buzzword) shoppers to get a piece of a brand that they couldn’t normally afford.

Enter Balmain, who’s getting into beauty through an unusual route–hair care. They’ve weirdly had high-end hair extensions for a while, so it probably makes sense that they’re launching a hair care line.

How can you not open an email that has “Cocksox: July 10 Is Cocksox® Day: Cocksox® Celebrates 5 Wild Years of Bringing Sexy Men’s Lingerie, Underwear and Swimwear to the World” in the subject? Cocksox is written three times in the subject alone, 13 in total throughout the entire release.

Now we’ll say it again. Cocksox, as the name suggests, is men’s “lingerie” and swimwear that supports a man’s bits with an “anatomically correct pouch.” According to the release, Cocksox came about out of a drunken dare between creators Nadiah Kanawaty and Nigel Christensen, a couple based out of Sydney. The dare became a successful business, and Cocksox is now celebrating their fifth year in action with Cocksox day on July 10.

“I wanted to make Cocksox Day really fun so as well as having a party, we’ve added the wild ‘Carnivore’ print to our most popular underwear and released some great new colour-ways,” Kanawaty said in the release. “‘Carnivore’ is a rich, leopard-based print and is totally unique to Cocksox.”

Cocksox is just one of many wacky naughty fashion items we’ve come across over the years.

Lindsay Lohan’s on Italian Vanity Fair: Lindsay Lohan’s first post-house arrest magazine cover is out and it’s the latest issue of Italian Vanity Fair, which hit newstands today. Lohan is also rumored to cover September’s American Vanity Fair, so we guess Conde Nast has no problem putting the same girl on the covers of international versions of the same magazine two months in a row. {Vanity Fair Italy}
