Tao Okamoto As Freja In Vogue China: There’s nothing better than a model’s homage to another model, and this one is amazing. Okamoto gets wispy-haired and leathered up to recreate Freja’s enviable model-off-duty style and the result is dead on. Props to stylist Claire Richardson. {Models.com}

Rihanna Covers September Glamour: So it begins. The first of the September covers appears with this seriously bootylicious sequin pants shot. {The Cut}

Fashion Film: Daphne Guiness As Jean Seberg: Guinness collaborated with filmmaker and photographer Joe Lally to create The Murder of Jean Seberg, an art film that loosely tells the story of the beloved American actress’ controversial death in 1979 (it’s more conceptual than fact-based). Read the interviews with Guinness and Lally as well. {ShowStudio}

Burberry just gets better and better, and luckily for us, plenty of the British heritage brand’s must-have fall items are marked down until August 1 at Nordstrom.

For a preppier take on the label’s tough leather jacket, consider this leather trimmed tweed topper in rich chocolate ($699, was $995). It’s the perfect transitional peace–wear it open with a pencil skirt and blouse in September, and through it over a chunky sweater and jeans in October.

If your closet’s still missing a classic trench, look no further than Burberry Brit’s single-breasted style with a removable liner ($699, was $1,095). This updated classic works as well during the week as it does on a rainy weekend–equally as cute with heels as it is with galoshes.

Looking for a pair of weekend pants that don’t look sloppy? These ponte knit moto pants are the answer ($149, were $250). There as comfy as a legging with the structure of a skinny jean or trouser.

For the Burberry check obsessed, consider this merino wool and cashmere cape ($349, was $525). It’s reversible–which means you can go solid when you want, plaid when you want–and it’s also super soft and warm.

This post is sponsored by Nordstrom.com. Shop the Anniversary Sale: Next Season on Sale Now. Prices go up August 1.

Isabeli Fontana stars in Donna Karan‘s fall 2011 campaign, shot by Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. I love the story in this campaign–Fontana is a high powered high profile New York exec whose life includes running between testifying in court, rushing her kid to school and attending a fancy gala. Kinda different from Fontana’s real life story right now–though she’s still under scrutiny.

Every season or so, there is some sort of detailed report on the progress of always almost-bankrupt retailer American Apparel. This morning, Dov and his empire are the subject of a WWD piece, the focus of which is AA’s forthcoming e-commerce shop on eBay. However, the online shop-in-shop is only one of several efforts the company is making to increase business. The retailer is also in talks to bring this shop-in-shop method to real life with leased spaces in Bloomingdale’s.

American Apparel is also set to open three additional leased spaces in Selfridges stores in the U.K. And, in a short time, most college apparel could have American Apparel’s signature Made in USA tags on the inside. They’re reportedly close to sealing a deal that could see them supplying clothes for up to 2,500 campuses.

Numbers were looking OK for AA back in May. It really seems like, if all goes according to plan, Dov & co. could finally actually be on the right track.

Marquita Pring, a rising star in the modeling world (she’s repped by Ford‘s stellar plus board), talked to WWD about her career and her future aspirations. She also offered a glimpse into the often eff’ed up and confusing world of plus size modeling. For example, she often has to pad her body to look bigger for certain jobs.

Here are some of her thoughts and experiences from the front lines:

And the musical chairs continue. Former BCBG Max Azria Group president Ben Malka is Halston’s new chairman and CEO, WWD is reporting.

Malka, a former medical student, brings 16 years of experience in the trenches at BCBG, including a close relationship with Bloomingdale’s. According to the trade, Bloomie’s will carry Halston Heritage for the first time this fall. Not a bad score for a brand that’s had a hard time re-establishing an identity.

Halston is still without a creative director for its designer collection since Marios Schwab’s contract wasn’t renewed, but there’s speculation that Marie Mazelis, the former creative director of BCBG, may come on board at Halston.

So it begins.

Elle Fanning looks all Victorian spooky (in a good way!) on LOVE’s issue six cover, shot by Mert and Marcus. She’s wearing a gorgeous Anna Sui Fall 2011 dress. Three more covers and a fashion video by Mert and Marcus will be released this week on models.com’s MDX column.

Comic-Con has been around since the ’70s as a comic book and sci-fi convention for die hard fans. So there has always amazing fashion at Comic-Con–albeit more in the capes and Princess Leia buns vein.

But over the years, it’s expanded in range (now covering anime, video games, fantasy novels etc.,) and size. Today, as films based on comic books continue to become instant summer blockbusters, the convention has become a necessary promotional stop for the actors and actresses starring in said films. Since Comic-Con is not a fancy film festival, stars basically wear whatever they (or their stylists) want. Here are our favorite looks from San Diego.

Refinery 29 chatted with Alexis Bittar this weekend at his San Francisco shop, and the jewelry designer dropped an exciting tidbit of information.
