If you liked Marc Jacobs’ womenswear ads featuring Helena Bonham-Carter, then you’ll love the menswear ads for the label.

The Juergen Teller lensed images feature artist 53-year-old Cerith Wyn Evans cavorting around pantless, sometimes with balloons. Sometimes with said balloons tied around his bits (don’t worry they don’t float away). Needless to say, this is all a tad NSFW.

As anyone who has worked in editorial or PR knows, the process of sending and fulfilling sample requests can be incredibly stressful, confusing and time-consuming. Editors and their assistants spend entire work days shuffling through paper look books and finding points of contact for samples, while PRs and design houses spend as much time tracking, sending out and receiving those samples. The whole system is weirdly antiquated–a testament to the fashion industry’s resistance to change. A couple of start-ups have popped up in recent years with the intention of using the internet to modernize and facilitate the process. For example, The Lookbook.com, which launched in 2008, aims to provide a directory for the entire fashion industry, giving members access to contact information for editors, stylists, PR reps, etc. FashionGPS, now known mostly for its fashion week check-in software, also provides easy sample trafficking for PRs and fashion houses.

Now, a couple of former accessories editors have launched The Runthrough, a site that makes the sample wrangling process more like online shopping. According to WWD, the site runs like a high-end members only e-commerce site, where editors are given a log-in and password and can browse the products, organized by designer, season, price and category, and add them to a cart. Upon providing a publication, editor, stylist, shoot description and pickup, run-through and return dates, the request is sent to the design house. Mandy Tang, one of the co-founders, calls it a “one-stop shop for editors.”

While laying on the beach reading the August Allure this weekend, I came across a small paragraph that made me say, “Oooh, new nail polish gimmick!” A little digging revealed that a new polish trend is in the making.

Sick of crackle finishes? Try magnets! The UK nail brand Nails Inc. is releasing a polish called Magnetic Attraction. The three metallic shades–gold, gray, and purple–contain iron powder and come with a magnet embedded in the cap. You apply a coat of the polish to each individual nail, then hold the magnet over your nail to get a rippled effect. These polishes will be available in October. Nails Inc. has been expanding its market in the US, so hopefully we’ll see it stateside. In the meantime, you can try to win it from Allure here. (Allure gives away some amazing swag. Definitely check out their “free stuff” link on a monthly basis.)

Kim Jones recently stepped into the spotlight when he debuted his first collection for Louis Vuitton at Men’s Fashion Week in Paris. He replaced Paul Helbers as style director of the house’s men’s ready-to-wear division, leaving his previous position as creative director at Alfred Dunhill. The Central St. Martin’s grad started quietly garnering a cult following back in the early aughts, when he produced a collection under his own name for eight consecutive seasons.

Since then he’s remained pretty under-the-radar, designing for various labels including Uniqlo, Mulberry, Alexander McQueen, Hugo Boss, Umbro and Topman, until his Louis Vuitton collection debuted to rave reviews. However, he has another project coming out that we are super excited about, especially because it includes womenswear and will probably be pretty affordable–a collaboration with hip Korean brand Bean Pole. Scott Sternberg recently designed a collection with the retailer that I was obsessed with and to my grave disappointment, it was only available in Korea.

Thanks to the clued in buyers at Opening Ceremony, this August, Jones’ Bean Pole collection will at least be available in New York.

Adventures in Copyright: Material Girl vs. Butter London

Monday, Jul 25, 2011 / 2:00 PM

Butter London is a high-end range of nail colors; the company works closely with designers and stylists to formulate new colors every season for runways and editorials. Some of these then get produced for us mortals to wear. And who can forget “No More Waity, Katie,” the color released to celebrate Kate Middleton’s exciting engagement to Prince William? Read more »

Truth: we love models. So that’s why we try our bestest to stay up to date on the ins-and-outs of the modeling world. (It’s a crazy place, for sure.)

Luckily a little birdy helped us out, with all this useful information.

For starters Belarussian blonde Tanya Dziahileva has moved to Marilyn in Paris. Not such big news, except that her new model card spells her last name as “Dyagileva.” I’m sure the pronunciation in Belarussian is similar, but for us English-speaking folks, Dyagileva is no easier to pronounce or spell. Perhaps her new agents wanted to give the model a fresh start? I mean, she has been working since age 13….

Also heading to Marilyn is Margherita Missoni, who leaves IMG’s boards for the Paris-based agency. It’s an interesting choice for an international socialite, since Marilyn has almost no celebrities or socialites, while IMG’s board includes fellow social butterflies Julia Reston Roitfeld, Liv Tyler, and Elisa Sendaoui. This could mean Margherita is attempting to go a more high-fashion route, although her family ties to Missoni have kept her from branching too far away. She basically wears Missoni to every event, which is more dedication and loyalty than most models show to anything.

MAC just announced that Nicki Minaj and Ricky Martin will be its 2012 Viva Glam spokespeople, replacing Lady Gaga. MAC releases a limited edition Viva Glam lipstick every year, and has had some pretty diverse spokespeople in the past in order to reflect their “all ages, all races, all sexes” credo. RuPaul, Elton John, and Linda Evangelista have all fronted for the lipstick, 100% of the proceeds of which go to the MAC AIDS Fund. ($224 million has been raised from sales of the lipstick to date.)

Um, now can we talk about this?
