Katie Ermilio is one of our favorite up-and-coming designers. Her clothes are so feminine, elegant and special, but also wearable and versatile. Katie was born into a family of clothiers, but refers to herself as an “accidental designer,” as she grew what she calls a “little hobby passion project” of making made-to-order pieces for private clients into a full-fledged career.

In just a few years she’s gone from a Vogue intern to having her own clothing line and now, at 25, she’s getting ready for her second-ever fashion week presentation (which Andrew Mukamal is styling). Yesterday, we stopped by her model casting to chat about fashion week prep, designing wedding dresses while still in college, and what’s in store for spring 2012.

Companies with any sort of history are trying to capitalize on the current nostalgic heritage craze that shows no signs of dying down. Even though it’s only been around since the 1970s, Jordache jeans is trying to grab some of that nostalgia. And we fully support them, if these stills from an upcoming commercial–due out in September–are any indication of what is to come. Read more »

It’s not exactly a secret that Conde Nast has been a little late to the whole Internet thing. Look no further than the fact that their most famous fashion title–Vogue, in case you weren’t sure–only got a dot com a few years ago. So it makes sense the famed publisher is trying to make up for lost time.

Today Conde Nast launched new social media tool “Social Sidekick.” The in-house developed tool works as an aggregator for most-shared content from W, Style.com, Glamour, Self, Teen Vogue and Lucky. It sounds sort of fancy but all it actually means is that on those sites there will be a window at the bottom of the page, which splashes out popular content from the aforementioned sister sites–basically, it’s an aggregator like any other aggregator on any other site. It’s not a bad idea–especially from the advertising perspective–but it’s certainly not groundbreaking, or as Business Insider says, “It’s nice to look at, but it won’t make a big difference to the bottom line.”

Karl Lagerfeld doesn’t come to New York very often to grace us with his presence, so this is major news. On September 6 he’ll pop into the Macy’s Herald Square flagship for a “very exclusive celebration” to fete the designer’s capsule collection for the retailer, according to a release we just received. It will be the only appearance he makes for the brand, so let’s hope a hurricane or some other disaster doesn’t prevent him from getting in for it.

No word on whether this will be a public affair a la Justin Bieber’s fragrance launch at Macy’s (during which he was knocked down by over-zealous security guards), though the words “very exclusive” make us think not. Can you imagine a crowd of tourists attacking Karl and his entourage, and you know, trying to talk to him?

Instead, Olivier is sliding into the Tuesday 4pm slot, which Marc by Marc had until they moved that up to the former Marc Jacobs Collection slot on Monday. It’s like musical chairs! {WWD}

Whitney Port has just released images from the latest Whitney Eve lookbook on Celebuzz. The former reality-TV-star cum fashion designer–or her favorite personal assistant–took to the blog herself to announce the collection. Quoth she: “Hi tootsies, I am beyond thrilled to finally be able to present to you the Fall 2011 LookBook!!!”

The collection features a lot of colorful graphic prints, which Whitney says were “inspired by [her] trip to Africa last October,” although no doubt the influence of buzzy up-and-coming label Suno, whose collections are often inspired by traditional African textiles, can be seen. However, Whitney definitely puts her own spin on the trend, and the result is a colorful collection that’s more California surfer girl than African anything.
