American Apparel is really, really trying. The company, which we reported earlier will begin to carry other brands, was front-row-and-center on our daily newsletter from ASOS, who has recently started carrying the brand.
According to a press release on PR Newswire, the two companies inked a deal August 9, after a test buy earlier this year resulted in success: “Initial consumer reaction was extremely positive as expected, hitting 100% sell through on first delivery,” Robert Bready, ASOS Product and Trading Director, said in the press release.
As we all know, American Apparel has been in a downward spiral for quite some time now. However, they seem to be on the right path lately, having recently announced plans to also sell their product on eBay and in Bloomingdale’s. While we may disapprove of some of their company’s practices (uh, like sexual harassment) we have to admire them for putting up such a fight to stay in business.
This recent ASOS partnership, which will bring international awareness to the brand in countries like Denmark, Russia, New Zealand, Singapore and Hong Kong, where American Apparel does not yet ship to, is definitely a step in the right direction. And maybe the brand can pick up a few styling tips from ASOS.com–so far, there’s not an ass cheek in sight!
