Genderbending Florence Welch On October Vogue Japan: We haven’t even seen all of the September issues yet and vogue Japan is already rolling out its October cover, which is awesome. Karl Lagerfeld shot musician Florence Welch, who looks like Jack White’s long-lost brother with slicked-back hair and red-white-and-black suiting. {Daily Mail}

Alexander Wang is Making Sally Hansen Polish! He’s working with the nail polish megabrand on a line of exclusive colors to debut at his Spring 2012 show. It’s his first foray into beauty and will probably be insanely popular; don’t expect them to sit on shelves for long (if at all). {Style.com}

Details on the Style.com Magazine: According to their website, the print magazine will launch “just days after the last look has left the runway” and will focus on every aspect of the Spring 2012 shows: clothing and trends, but also people, parties and backstage peeks. They’ll post daily updates on Twitter until the launch. {Style.com}

Chanel’s news site has just posted behind the scenes photos of the making of the brand’s fall campaign, Chanel Cocomaton. It’s a rare and refreshing peak into the magical world of Chanel. Even if revealing the process takes away from the magic, it’s worth it to see those tiny interlocking “C”s being placed oh-so-delicately with tweezers under Freja‘s eyes as if they were tears, or Freja cracking up at Karl as he photographs her in a photo booth in his famed library (note that the photo booth actually worked). But where was Carine?

The Stella McCartney Sunnies You’re Gonna Want Right Now

Tuesday, Aug 23, 2011 / 12:08 PM

Stella McCartney has a theory about sunglasses: “Women have two sets: a classic pair they’ll have forever and a more playful pair.” But if you ask us, her new 60s inspired thick round-framed sunnies can do double duty. They come in fun colors like green and a gorgeous blush but the shape is classic and super flattering. I mean–just look at the model wearing the frames in blush (at left)? She kinda makes you want ‘em. Don’t lie. (Or at least we want ‘em.) Plus with mod’s resurgence on the runways this past season, they’re right on trend.

And if mod isn’t your thing–and that super chic Hollywood ‘No pictures please!’ thing is–we suggest Stella’s take on the over-sized square frames. They come in neutral hues like black, hazelnut and light grey as well as powder. And since they’re tailor made for glamor girls, they’ve got a little label bling on each arm.

So which will you choose? A modern take on mod or pure glamor. Either way, you can’t go wrong.

Until very recently, we didn’t know much about Frances Bean Cobain other than that she just turned 19 and is the daughter of Courtney Love and the late Kurt Cobain. Now, we also know that she’s gorgeous, thanks to two sets of sultry photos that have recently hit the internet.

Hedi Slimane‘s were the first to catch our attention. The black and white photos, which show Frances Bean covered in tattoos and smoking, are haunting and intense and shed a new light on the famous offspring. The fashion world was particularly dazzled by the photos and she’s already being called an ‘it girl.’ Her mother told the Observer, of a recent Times article, “Ugh, I didn’t like how they called her an ‘It Girl.’ It’s tacky. It’s not like she’s gonna do Nylon.”

Just before Frances’ 19th birthday, another set of photographs emerged by fine art photographer Rocky Schenck–these ones more romantic and old Hollywood and less rock and roll than Hedi’s, but equally beautiful.

Both photographers said the photos were taken at Cobain’s request, which is interesting. Does she just admire the work of these particular photographers or does she want photos of herself out there for a particular reason? As far as we know, she hasn’t shown interest in anything other than her own art, so the former seems more likely than any quest for fame.

Frances is obviously having a moment, but will it last?

Opening ceremony has a lot going on for their carnival-themed Fashion’s Night Out bash in and around their Ace Hotel store location.

Firstly, the beloved indie department store will announce this year’s country of focus: Argentina. They’ll be partnering with 125-year-old Argentinean textile company Alpargatas to create limited edition shoes and clothing inspired by traditional Argentinean styles–in particular, they’ll be hawking jupe-soled Alpargatas (aka espadrille-like slip-ons), which, in case you hadn’t guessed, were pioneered by the company. Opening Ceremony will also carry Argentine designers, including JUNGLE Vi.Ai.Pi., Ale Sly, and Chicco Ruiz, to customize styles, colorways, and fabrications for the retailer and brand–all of which will become available this September.

Best of all though, is that Miss Piggy (yes, really) will be stopping by the brand’s store in the Ace Hotel this Fashion’s Night Out. Why you ask? To unveil her new collection with the brand, Muppets x Opening Ceremony a.k.a the best news we’ve heard all morning (and we’d still say that even if it weren’t a dreadfully slow summer news day)!

Avril Lavigne will show her line Abbey Dawn at New York Fashion Week next month. We’ll let that sink in a little for a minute.

The punk-pop princess is set to expand Abbey Dawn, which up until now has included t-shirts, hoodies and jewelry (decorated with skulls and lightening bolts, natch), and is sold exclusively at Kohls. This year, however, there will be even more pink-graffiti-print to go around. The line will include dresses, denim, skirts, footwear, handbags, wallets, purses and eyewear. And, just so the sk8ter bois don’t feel left out, Lavigne (or her team) will be producing a full men’s collection as well.

Here at Fashionista, we spend a lot of time looking at designers’ ad campaigns, especially within the last few weeks as the fall ads drop. We’ve even dedicated four slideshows to ranking them. After seeing the same ads in September issue after September issue, you can’t blame us for wanting to find a new way to look at them. Inspired by a recent post on OC Weekly, we realized we could actually improve the fall ads using photoshop and pictures of something else we spend a lot of time looking at: cats. So, without further ado, here are 11 fall ad campaigns improved by some adorable cats.

We never would have pegged her for it but from the looks of her wedding photos, Kim Kardashian is a MEGA Neverending Story fan.

Okay, maybe Kim didn’t actually take inspiration from the classic 80s movie, but c’mon you have to give it to us: She’s a dead ringer for the film’s Childlike Empress.

Wearing white to a wedding when you’re not that bride? It’s the cardinal wedding sin. Or it was.

Kate Middleton famously had her bridesmaids wear white–and we don’t have to tell you how well that went over, particularly for a certain, um, callipygian Maid of Honor.

Two months later the other Kate–Kate Moss, of course–also dressed her bridesmaids and flower girls (all 15 of them) in white. Guests Carine Roitfeld, Bella Freud, Naomi Campbell and Stella McCartney were also spotted wearing the shade at the wedding.

And now Kim Kardashian has jumped on the bandwagon, choosing white gowns that look remarkably like wedding dresses for her bridesmaids at recent nuptials. And while limited photos of Kim K‘s big wedding have been released, we already know that at least Lindsay Lohan wore white, and apparently the invite called for guests to wear black or white.

So what’s going on here?
