Finally, a look at Karl Lagerfeld‘s much-hyped capsule collection for Macy’s ‘Impulse’ department. Macy’s offered up a preview of the full line last night at a gallery space in SoHo wallpapered with black and white photos of the Kaiser looking awfully serious (as he usually does) and campaign images featuring the always-stunning Coco Rocha photographed by Lagerfeld in his library in Paris.

The 45 piece collection is comprised of flirty dresses–some feminine and floral, others crisper and more severe–thick tweedy separates (shorts and vests) and faux leather jackets. The simpler black and white dresses with sharp white collars stood out (they seemed the most Chanel-like) but my prediction is that the soft slouchy tees printed with Lagerfeld’s image, priced at $49, will fly off the racks.

“To me Macy’s is the perfect department store in the US where everybody can find what they’re looking for without ruining their budget,” Lagerfeld said in a release. The collection is priced between $50 to $170 and goes on sale at 235 Macy’s across the nation and on macys.com on August 31 (set a reminder).

Take a look. Do you love it? Do you hate it? Will you be camping outside Macy’s on August 30 wearing a necklace like this (yes someone was really wearing that at the preview, it’s by Yazbukey)?

We’re sure that when cavemen banged out rhythms on old animal skulls, all the most gorgeous cave girls immediately came running. While musicians have never had a hard time picking up women, it’s safe to say MTV made it easier for them. The era of the model/musician relationship bloomed during the MTV era–models and musicians were frequently thrown together during video shoots, which was a job that hadn’t existed for models before.

MTV just turned 30, and to honor the music channel which helped to give musicians faces and personalities, here’s our roundup of the 30 best (and strangest) model/musician pairings through the years.

So, in case you haven’t noticed, we’ve been gushing over just about every thing to come out of LOVE issue six, including this amazing Mert and Marcus-lensed editorial, titled “What Lies Beneath.” The images of sparingly clothed models splayed about in a dark forest and creepy lake are haunting and romantic. We were pretty impressed with it until Fashionising pointed out its striking similarity to a series of photographs by Jeff Bark called “Woodpecker.”

We know photographers are inspired by other artists all the time, but these might be too similar to be referred to as “inspiration.” The lighting, setting, props, and even many of the poses are exactly the same. Both even feature swans. Is this a case of one photographer being inspired by or paying homage to another, or is it plagiarism?

Here are three more side-by-side comparisons (Mert & Marcus for LOVE on the right, Jeff Bark on the left). Read more »

I spent last weekend in Las Vegas at Cosmoprof, which is an industry conference where small beauty brands can get hooked up with buyers, distributors, and salon owners. Meeting and talking to entrepreneurs is one of the best parts of my job, and I was eager to speak to them about their impressions of the industry and to scout out trends-in-the-making. There was tons of great stuff, which I’ll be reporting on all week.

I came upon the booth for Hair Flairs, a small company that sells feather and tinsel hair extensions. The creative director, Trina Marr, was more than willing to dish about all the controversy in the hair feathering industry. Turns out there’s a lot.

Here are Karl Lagerfeld’s Eyes: Someone snapped a photograph of Karl Lagerfeld in a rare moment in which he was not wearing sunglasses. It’s kind of freaking us out. He looks completely different, no? Less harsh? He has nice eyes. {Fashionologie}

Your Chanel Might Start a Fire: In other Chanel-related news, the luxury brand just had to recall a ton of merchandise, including 120 scarves and 34 apparel styles, because of flammability issues. {Racked}

Dov Charney’s New Venture: Somehow, in a matter of months, American Apparel CEO Dov Charney went from almost leading his company into bankruptcy to investing in an east village southern-themed hipsteraurant. The Cardinal will open “around August 14″ and a former American Apparel employee and a mustachioed North Carolina-bred musician-turned-chef are behind it. {The Local East Village}

Elle Fanning’s Next Movie: Check out the trailer for TWIXT, Francis Ford Coppola’s upcoming film starring Elle Fanning. Her look here seems to be less Virgin Suicides and more vampire punk. {Fashion Copious}

Madewell’s jeans and other downtown cool essentials make up a significant portion of Fashionista editors’ wardrobes so we’re pretty much counting down the days until their awesome fall collection (and second collaboration with Alexa Chung!) hits stores. If you’re as obsessed with Madewell as we are and/or think you might enjoy an all-expenses-paid getaway to Los Angeles, you’re probably going to be pretty excited about this amazing sweepstakes.

Thanks to the generous people at Madewell, you AND a friend could win a dream trip to L.A., including a $2,000 Madewell Shopping Spree and insider access to the Alexa Chung For Madewell launch party.

All you have to do is go here and type in your email address. If you win, consider us very jealous of you and the killer fall wardrobe you’re going to get (not to mention the great time you’re going to have at the party).

Most of the Jersey Shore girls (and Pauly D)have delved into fashion in one way or another but we didn’t see the Situation following suit. And for formal wear at that.

Nevertheless, today brings word that Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino has just signed on to be the face of FLOW Formal tuxedos. The Sitch raked in an easy six figures for the deal, TMZ is reporting.

“This is great for us and great for the industry,” FLOW Formal CEO Brian Weintraub told TMZ. “[Tuxedos have] become an old man thing.” So the company is looking to Sorrentino to rake in that youth market. Young men, would you buy a tux from the Situation (or ladies, would you let your men)?

Remember when Calvin Klein was super risque in the ’90s (think Brooke Shields and Kate Moss and nothing comes between them and their Calvins)? Well he’s baaack.

18-year-old model Barbara Palvin appears to be taking the term “Forbidden Euphoria” quite literally in the new ads for Calvin Klein’s new fragrance of the same name. According to a press release about the scent via scent site Fragrantica ‘Forbiden Pleasures’ is dedicated to the ‘independent woman’ and has ‘appealing intoxicating notes that seduce from the first stroke.’ ‘Independent woman,’ ‘first stroke,’ do I really have to spell this out? Plus the bottle looks a lot like a vibrator. The scent launches this September.

In other beauty ad news, we’ve seen Lara Stone‘s gorgeous heavily made-up disco queen ads for Tom Ford’s full beauty line. He’s also releasing two new fragrances–the perfume blogs are salivating over these launches. We’re sort of salivating over this violet-saturated image of Lara Stone swimming in flowers. Read more »
