Three-named beauties Freja Beha Erichsen and Georgia May Jagger grace two of Pop‘s just-released fall covers. Both covers made us do double-takes–Georgia’s because she does not look like herself. She’s still gorgeous, but her amazing blonde hair and sexy rock & roll persona are smothered by a brunette bob wig and yellow organza. What’s up with that?

Freja’s freaked us out because she is holding hands with a creepy doll perched on her shoulder, which we realized is supposed to be in the likeness of performance artist Marina Abramovic, who collaborated with the glossy on three covers (the other two can be seen below). They would definitely catch our attention at a newsstand. How do you think they stack up to former Pop editor Dasha Zhukova’s new mag? Read more »

The infamous Brazilian blowout–a Keratin-based semi-permanent hair straightening treatment–has gone from hugely popular to hugely controversial due to reports of potentially dangerous levels of formaldehyde found in the treatment. Earlier this year, the US Department of Labor released a hazard alert about the dangers of straightening formulas that contain formaldehyde, causing salons and fans of the treatment (myself included) to question whether or not they’re worth the risk.

According to a report in WWD this morning, a ruling is expected for September 26 or 27 to determine once and for all whether or not these products are safe, based on studies being conducted by the Cosmetic Industry Review.

Designer Prabal Gurung has already won the CFDA’s Swarovski Award, masterminded a collaboration with retail juggernaut J. Crew and counts Demi Moore and Michelle Obama as fans, but this fall marks another milestone for the designer: It will be the first season the three-year-old label will advertise.

Of course, Gurung does not shy away from trailblazing, and so while this campaign, shot by Daniel Jackson and modeled by Julia Saner, is gorgeous for a number of reasons, it’s also innovative as it will only appear only online–a particularly forward-thinking and timely move as newsstand sales continue to decline.

“The power of the Internet is enormous and the reach that it has is unparalleled,” Gurung said in an email this morning.

Meet the Ford Model Who Looks Like Justin Bieber

Friday, Aug 26, 2011 / 11:00 AM

Corinna Ingenleuf is a fresh face out of Hamburg, Germany and new to the Ford Models board but she’s already got a Fashion Spot thread devoted to her–which generally bodes well for a model’s future success (so does the fact that she did Pringle of Scotland’s resort look book). One commenter noted that Ingenleuf’s got “Bieber hair” but we think she’s got Bieber face, too.

So does Australia’s The Vine, who first noticed that this new model was a dead ringer for the Biebs. They suggest ditching the Lesbians Who Look Like Justin Bieber meme for the playing models who look like Justin Bieber game during fashion month. Hey, we’re game.

Well here’s something to perk you up this Friday morning: New images have just been released of Rafael Nadal, clad in just his skivvies, for fall’s Emporio Armani underwear and Armani Jeans campaign.

The campaign, shot by Steven Meisel does the tennis star justice–but then again, with those abs, it’s not exactly hard.

Alexander McQueen’s record-breaking Savage Beauty exhibit is going to be a hard act to follow at the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute. However, we don’t think these two iconic designers will disappoint. WWD has just revealed that the next Costume Institute exhibit will focus on Miuccia Prada and the late Elsa Schiaparelli.

The accomplished female designers are both trailblazers and art lovers with bodies of work that are far from boring. Their originality made them two of the most influential designers in women’s fashion and we can’t wait to see what the Costume Institute’s Harold Koda and Andrew Bolton have planned for them.

Happy Birthday Claudia Schiffer!

Thursday, Aug 25, 2011 / 7:30 PM

A very happy birthday to über-supermodel and former Guess jeans girl Claudia Schiffer who turns 41 today! We’re just going to say what everyone is thinking: She’s magically babelicious! (And she doesn’t look a day over 28…)

If Zac Posen does indeed start designing furniture, then we have an inkling who might lend a helping hand: Boyfriend Christopher Niquet.

Niquet is a French stylist who got his start at Self Service magazine in the late nineties, and has worked in the business ever since, styling shoots for (among others) Another Magazine, Dazed & Confused, US Elle and Purple, as well as campaigns for Karl Lagerfeld, Hermes, A.P.C. and, of course, Zac Posen. But according to Niquet, he may be changing track soon. “I think I will do more interiors now,” the sought-after-stylist told us last night at the opening of the new Z Spoke store.

Apparently it all started when good friends Alexa Chung and Tennessee Thomas recently moved to Manhattan and the stylist began helping them decorate their apartments. Anyone who has met Niquet can tell the man has impeccable taste, and so it’s no surprise that before he knew it, he was helping Chung and Thomas source furniture and pick out textiles for their respective apartments.

“It’s great with Alexa because she doesn’t need to spend any money at all on clothes–no, I think she gets it all for free!” he told us last night, laughing. “I was at a shoot with her recently and she took like a trunk home full of clothes and I said, is this normal? And she said, yeah pretty much.” Cue the jealousy…

Storms, like the one that’s currently headed for New York and just cancelled my Montauk trip, can be scary and sometimes even dangerous, so everyone be careful this weekend! That being said, they can also make for intriguing backdrops and themes in fashion editorials and ad campaigns. You’d be hard-pressed to find an Annie Leibovitz-lensed photograph that takes place outdoors without some ominous-looking clouds. Somehow, they can make any subject look so much more captivating and dramatic.

So, on this rainy, gloomy day, we’ve decided to round up some of our favorite storm-inspired fashion photographs. Enjoy and please be safe!

LOS ANGELES–The famed Hollywood Forever cemetery played host to quite the quintessential all-American hipster summer soiree on Wednesday night as cool kids Joel Madden, Andrew Garfield, Sarah Silverman, Jenny Lewis, Scott Sternberg, George Kotsiopoulos and more gathered to fete Band of Outsiders, Net-a-Porter and Mr. Porter.

To set the tone, plenty of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer, RC Cola and warm weather fare (meatball sandwiches, potato chips, macaroni salad and more) were served up to the stylish crowd of industry insiders mingling amongst tombstones and morbid memorial sites.

“The cemetery totally creeps me out, but I came anyway to support the brand,” laughed Madden, carrying his personal picnic basket while scouting out a supreme spot on the grounds to watch the screening of the classic 1979 film Meatballs, starring Bill Murray. “They have been doing basic before anyone else. Now basic is actually very big, but Band of Outsiders was years ahead. They just do it right.”
