YSL’s dominion over his label continued to 1987, when he resigned after a collection featuring $100,000 bejeweled day jackets.

The house of YSL menswear was relaunched in 1997 under Hedi Slimane, and womenswear launched in 1998 with Alber Elbaz at the helm. After Elbaz departed in 1999 and Tom Ford was brought in, much to Monsieur Saint Laurent’s disdain. Stefano Pilati has served as the creative director since Tom Ford’s resignation in 2004.
