New Paris Show Reviews and Galleries! Ann Demeulemeester, Manish Arora and Bernhard Willhelm
By Dhani MauFor those of you who haven’t heard of the German designer, forget everything you expect from a fashion show, and be ready to welcome gaffer tape and coconuts into your sartorial lingo. Known for his taste for nu-rave and home appliances, Bernhard Willhelm held a presentation in a gallery by the Marais–or rather, a tiny sweatbox where beer and shots of tequila were generously handed out.
It seemed like the show had been excitedly thrown together the night before: the décor consisted of roles of scotch tape and string hanging from the ceiling, holding together bits of painted cardboard and fruits. Girls marched down topless with painted nipples, in football jerseys converted into dresses. The models held giant paper tubes (like oversized, erm, cigarettes) and blew out flour onto everyone’s clothes, while strutting, dancing and sticking their tongues out.

The show was like a hybrid of neo-gothic wear and several tribal references. Tassels usually found on classical Moroccan scarves were paired with a kimono-like jacket. The silhouettes were slouchier and sexier than usual: wide pants and wide tops, subtly revealing a shoulder (or an entire pair of breasts), under a seemingly demure, practical garment (for erm, those of us about to take off on a bra-less hike on Mount Sinai?)

Manish Arora Spring 2012: Amazons From Outer Space, Complete with Tea and Hookahs
Manish Arora was his usual theatrical self, and delivered a show as entertaining as it was finely crafted.
It kicked off with one of Pedro Almodovar’s favorite actresses, Rossy de Palma, in a holographic cocktail dress, leading a troop of girls in embroidered, sci-fi gear fit for an Amazon from outer space. She led them right to some tables laden with tea pots and hookahs, after which they got up and walked around on the runway.

Like many designers this season, Copping is looking back to what he described on his line sheets as “the Golden Age of couture.” And it was easy to feel transported to that Golden Age at the show space–a beautiful salon on avenue Foch, high ornate ceilings, lots of gold, the whole nine yards. The front row–Arianne Phillips (who, according to WWD, is marking her return to full-time styling) next to Katie Grand next to Carine Roitfeld next to Anna Dello Russo–was golden, too.
Copping’s interpretation of couture’s golden age for Nina Ricci is extraordinarily delicate, Parisian and ladylike. There were high waisted floral print pencil skirts with boxy little jackets, flared skirts, tops done in guipire lace, and dainty cardigans. Every look was topped off with prim little woven cage hats.
Ricci is known for incorporating lingerie details, and this season Copping’s use of lingerie was decidedly unsubtle.

Meet Emmanuelle Alt’s ‘Mini Me’s’
While one could argue that American Vogue editors have a “look,” we’ve never seen any as similarly dressed as these three French Voguettes. Always chic editor-in-chief Emanuelle Alt has become known for her laid-back rock & roll style. The look has made her a street style darling, and now so are her minions assistants who, from a distance, could easily be mistaken for her. The similarity between all of them is a little startling, from the medium-length brown hair to the loose top paired with low-slung cropped jeans and pumps to the tanned, often makeup-free skin.
We’ve been seeing the three of them together at all the fashion weeks–at least we think it’s always the same girls. Everyone seems to be after Alt’s effortless chic look these days.
However, after doing some research, we’ve assesed that it’s usually Capucine Safyurtlu and Geraldine Saglio.

Co-Founders of Cult-Favorite Boutique and Label No.6 Tell Us About Their New Blog
No. 6′s chic boutique has been drawing stylish New Yorkers for nearly a decade now; their classic clogs have already become a staple among Hollywood’s A-list and their Urban Outfitters collaboration 6X6 was an instant success. And now the stylish duo behind the label, Morgan Yakus and Karin Bereson, have set their sights on conquering another venue: The Blogosphere.
Similar to their store, No.6′s blog is a collection of “stuff we like” from Yakus and Bereson, who also work as a vintage collector and stylist, respectively. It features a look from their store on a model, shot right outside the boutique–and it reads not unlike a personal style diary…except with expertly styled outfits and gorgeously designed, unique duds–courtesy of No. 6 of course.
We caught up with the duo to chat about their store’s success, what it’s like to work with your best friend–and why you should visit their blog. Like now.

Carven Spring 2012: Designer Guillaume Henry Tells Us Why He Doesn’t Want to Do a Runway Show or Use Top Models (Oh, and the Clothes Are Amazing)
PARIS–We’ve made no effort to conceal our fondess for the recently revived Carven line, helmed by the talented (and adorable) Guillaume Henry. And today at the Jeu de Paume, Henry delivered, once again, a collection that inspired straight-up lust. It was Parisian-chic-goes-global and I wanted it all.
And that’s precisely the point. Henry wants every girl to see herself in these clothes.

Exclusive: Watch SUNO’s Mysterious Fashion Film Starring Sessilee Lopez
By Hayley PhelanSuno co-designer Max Osterweis was a filmmaker before he was a designer so it’s no surprise that his first fashion film for the label (that he designs with Erin Beatty) is a first-rate thriller. It’s set at the famed Astor Courts, the mansion built for John Jacob Astor IV by OG starchitect Stanford White back in 1904, and was directed by Gordon Harrison Hull, co-founder and former Creative Director of Surface to Air. The dilapidated state of the Rhinebeck, NY manse provides a compelling and eerie background for a film featuring Suno’s cheery clothes, model Sessilee Lopez, and a trunk sinking in a swimming pool.
Take a look.

Ten Questions for Project Runway
1. Do these designers know the difference between the 70′s and 80′s? Pretty sure fuchsia and neon florals weren’t a part of the hippie repertoire.
2. Why is there a rainbow of heeled clogs scattered around the workroom? It’s like a bad acid trip filled with hideous footwear.
3. Anya, if you don’t have pockets why didn’t you just go for it and stuff the cash into your bra? We’re all girls here, and we’ve all done it.
4. Speaking of Anya, how much eye-makeup do you have to wear to cry that shade of black? Maybe she’s part squid or something.
